I think it is going to get worse before it gets better, simply because hoarders and speculators are buying up every drop of it as soon as it hits the shelves, at least in the more popular calibers.

his name is bob fowler. hes prob in his 60s and is full of knowledge. he loads over 200 calibers. and hes a one man show.

im about to have a talk w him tho, i asked him last week if he loaded 6.8spc and he said no! hes never had anyone ask for it. im about to buy one ( hopefully) and its not looking good on finding ammo.

he is a ffl holder and really hooks anyone up charges 20-30 over his cost on firearms, and is a distributor of lee reloading supplies. so die sets are also super cheap.

im truly lucky to know this guy!

If you don't already have the stuff, try finding primers, bullets and brass.

I reload my own (38spl, 9mm, 357mag, 45acp and 45 Colt)........ You're probably too late on getting the primers and powder. You can still find bullets if you're willing to wait 6-8 weeks. I went to my favorite source for primers and powder (Powder Valley) and most of the common powders are sold out and primers for pistols are also gone. I'm in good shape since I made my purchase back in September (40,000 primers and 16lbs of powder).

Please take my advice in good spirit.......remember the shortages and pricing gouging now taking place. Invest in a good reloading press NOW so that when reloading supplies again become plentiful (they will) you will be prepared to make your own. Before this shortage situation I could reload my calibers and save at least 50% over store bought ammuntion. Now with the prices for ammuntion going up, the savings is even greater. I can reload 9mm for $13 per hundred nad 45acp for $24 per hundred. Some say the big reason to reload is to save money.....yes, that's an important consideration. But what's more important to me is the ability to have access to freshly loaded ammunition and not be at the mercy of the retail market for ammunition.

Getting back to the OP, if you want standard capacity mags, I would buy the gun and not worry about getting ammo for the moment. Also, Wal-Mart instituted a 3 boxes per customer per day limit, so people can't go in and buy their entire ammo shipment as soon as it hits the shelves. Some online retailers have put box limits on orders as well, so I'm betting that the ammo situation will be better by the end of the month.

our local supplier for reloads is empty on almost everything but plain old lead, primers are hard to find to!

ya ill probly get either another g27 40 or a 21 not totally sure yet.. im thinking it will get better the ammo companys wont stop making bullets to much money to be made theyve just got to catch up and itll be back to normal again

Make your own and you won't have to worry about it!

I usually keep about 1k reloads around for each caliber I own and the supplies to reload another thousand. Even so, reloading supplies are even hard to come by.

Ammo is trickling into stores every day and selling a fast. If you are lucky you may get what you want it's aster of timing.
Last time this sort of thing happened reloading supplies were last to come in.
This is a larger scale issue.
On the plus side 12 gauge target and games loads are every where.

You will need:
A scale
Dies
Shell holder or plate for the caliber you want to reload. Also depends on a single stage or progressive.
Reloading books@@@ Get these first and read them.
Primers
Brass
Bullets
Bullet puller
Primer tray
Plastic ammo containers
Tumbler and media

I think that may be it.

To the OP, I think ammo will come back, it is starting to already, just very slowly. Watch your LGS, maybe make friends with them and see if they have a list you can get on to get some ammo when it comes in.
Also check the big stores, find out when the truck comes in and then be there when the store opens so you may get some ammo.
