Take THREE!
As I see the growing alarm about the attempted anti gun efforts, I think there is one thing we all can be doing to head this off.
I would challenge everyone to take THREE non-shooters to the range this year.
I have taken quite a few non shooters to the range over the last few years, and many have
Now taken their ccw class and probably 15 have their own weapons.
Many people are afraid, and only need an opportunity to go with someone, to see what its all about.
We will build converts this way.......
Everyone has a neighbor, friend, uncle, cousin, aunt, son in law, etc, etc, etc
That we can teach safety and how much fun shooting really is.......

What non-shooter are YOU planning on taking to the range?

I think this is a great idea. This past summer I went to a shooting party and it solidified my decision to buy a handgun. Oh, and made my wife super comfortable with the idea of shooting. She now wants her own gun too.
Having said that, one thing that I will want to do is try to get people with far more experience to go too and encourage people to take a beginning class or get further training BEFORE they buy a gun.

I'm all for this, but it's a little difficult for me to do here in South Carolina... I don't even come across 3 anti-gun folks in a year down here.
I'll be all over this mission though when I move back home (Pittsburgh, PA) though. It pains me to say this, but know a lot of anti's up there in and outside of my immediate circle. Just ain't story down here in ever so beautiful SC.

One of our local ranges has a couples night. For $39, a couple get an hour's use of a shooting lane, two boxes of ammunition, two targets and two meals at the range's deli. It is sold out every Friday and Saturday night well in advance.
It doesn't have to be a "couple" in that sense of the word. It can be any two people.

If they want to provide their own ammo, maybe.

Do wives count? If they do, one down for me! She was a non-shooter in 2012 (except for the very occasional 10/22 shooting with me). So far in 2013, she has taken her gun safety course, purchased a Ruger LC380, and has an appointment to turn in her application for a CCW permit in about 2 weeks.

Per my prior challenge......
How many non shooters have you taken to the range this quarter?
I am at 4.........
One bought a new pistol already, another is looking at an M&P to buy, and a 3rd is looking as well......
3 new converts in 3 months.......
Call your congress..... It helps
BUT TAKE NEW FOLKS SHOOTING.......
Teach them safety
Dont hand them the 44 magnum on the first visit for kicks....
It will save our bacon, or at least get them to not be negative toward gun onwership

What blitzburgh said is about the way,i've seen it,in S.C.There are a few antis, but, they are quiet. There are some mom's,that were going to Columbia,i think to protest, because the background cks, didn't pass.I saw very little coverage on it.I saw two small write ups and that was it.I've often invited non-shooters to go with me.Obviously, when there was ammo..I did have one to tell me,they were scared of guns, and didn't want to be around one. When they say that, and it involves a gun,i drop it.

The math is easy.........
We as hunters and shooters have not spread the word......
Many dont take their kids shooting
Most dont bother taking non shooters
Just take 3....... We will have no long term problems as our numbers grow

I don't always do so hot with strangers. But the really important thing here is I have to TRUST the other person before telling someone new I own guns. Let alone taking them to a Range. Besides which ammo is just too dog gone expensive to give it away to someone for free. The last guy I trusted stole from me.

I am with you on this one. I don't have many friends because there are not many people I trust with my life. Look at what happened to Chris Kyle.

Dean is gun owner of the week!
That used to be the focus of gun groups like the NRA. We can't let the anti-gun crowd push us underground. For crying out loud, potheads are becoming more socially acceptable than gun owners. One of those activities are specifically protected by the Constitution. One of them is a federal crime. You wouldn't know it though.
There are infinite excuses to lock yourself in the basement. It is difficult to invest in the future of our sport. I was going to take my wife shooting next week. Now, I'm calling Wifey's bff and her husband to come along. Thanks dean.

I've taken 2 so far. My ex gf (while we were still dating) and a co-worker who is looking into his ccw.
