The Awesome Adapter for Your 12-Gauge Shotgun That Turns It Into an ‘Ultimate Survival Rifle’

    Mar. 27, 2013 1:39pm Liz Klimas

In an extreme survival situation where the appropriate amount of ammunition for the type of firearm you’re carrying can’t necessarily be guaranteed, what would you do? Carry multiple types of firearms to increase your chances of coming across ammo you can use? You could do that, or you could have an adapter system that comes in a handy pouch that allows one 12-gauge shotgun to take 11 different types of ammunition.

The creator of Gear Up’s X Caliber Shotgun Gauge Adapter System, Tim Ralston, told TheBlaze it’s like carrying 11 guns in one.

But are they joe approved?? I have seen adapters like that before but not as a set and not that long. Would possibly be an accessory for a BOB allowing you the ability to use what ammo you may be able to find.

Kind of odd. I already carry a shotgun for a survival weapon in the off road vehicles I am using, as it allows a range from small shot for eating sparrows etc., up to slugs for deer and bear.
I don't always have nothing to say, but when I do, I post it on Facebook.

Well, the deal with most other shotgun caliber adapters is that they only have a very short smooth bore section. These adapters have rifled bores.
That is a big plus with regard to accuracy.
But, also keep in mind that various calibers are going to have quite different points of impact on the intended target.

Yes, he was the individual that an unintended discharge that resulted in the loss of part of his thumb....but, please try to keep off his thumb an on the thread topic which would be the shotgun caliber adapters.

In the article it comments that it does not have the same accuracy as an actual calibered gun, but it is interesting.

I think he meant with the rifle calibers since you would basically be shooting a .308 from a 5" or whatever barrel.

It was not mentioned in the video, but I believe you could use on in each barrell. The important part is that the shotgun is break action. the only thing stopping that would be having enough clearance to get the insert into the barrel.

Let's say you did just that. Then it would be Shotgun Joe approved.

This is definitely interesting. The video mentioned that the kit would cost around $450. A new single shot 12 guage can be had for around $200. So for around $650 you can have a somewhat accurate rifle/shotgun combo that shoots 10 rifle/pistol calibers plus 12 guage loads. I think it will fit on my wish list, but it will probably be pretty far down.
I would like to see the shooting test video. He says that they are aiming for paper plate accuracy at 100 yards.

Interesting. I wonder what component of it is patented? Rifled inserts like that have been around for a while right?

Based on the video, I believe that the larger caliber inserts are the ones that are patented.
