Ultrasonic cleaners

anyone have one of those Ultrasonic cleaners that you can just drop your gun parts into and it does the work of cleaning? How do you like it? They look pretty cool, but some seem to carry a nice price tag too.

I want one but yeah the price tag holds me off

Never used one but did some research. Found that if you put a part in there with a crack (even one you can't see with your eye) the cleaner can cause the crack to propogate and eventually fail.

Still might try a harbor freight model on some parts. Pretty cheap.

yeah, I have seen them as low as $40 and as high as $3000, but I guess I don't really know the difference among the lower priced ones. Sometimes I worry about cheapies...the saying you get what you paid for...or the cheap comes out expensive.

Most of the cheapies are small and i see that as a problem got to be big enough to get a lot of the gun in there especially a revolver

I'll make you guys a deal... If my harbor freight has the digital one in stock tomorrow I'll post up how well it works :) This post reminded me that I want one.

I'm Thinking about one after Deer season

At the gun range that I am a member, they have one for member use (you don't even have to fire it there, just bring in your guns for cleaning).

It works great. I need to take my Sistema over there (maybe this weekend) and drop it in. All you have to do is remove the grips (don't put in tupperwear, when I wanted to clean my USP45 they said don't put the frame in, the slide okay).

I've dropped my Kimber in there and it cleaned the heck out of it, none of the little specks of carbon could be found.

But, they are expensive for home use. I would love one but lucky enough to be able to use one at the range. The one there is big enough for two handguns but you can't drop in your rifle lol.

naw 500 does that for me .. I'm just stocking piling cash on hand incase i take the 2 weeks off instead of 4 days

would be nice to have one, but the price. i can buy lots of #9, brake cleaner, q-tip, etc.... for the price of a good one.

I had access to a better one for a few years, I didn't like it much. The problems were that you had to keep both the wash chemical clean,and the oil clean. It was way to easy to crosscontaminate.
It never did a real good job, I still had to go over the gun by hand. So, what was the point of having it?

I would think that if an Ultra Sonic Cleaner propagated and disclosed a pending failure, that would be a great benefit. I would much rather find out about a pending failure than have it fail at an inopportune time.

Got one, works ok if you don't overload it with too many parts. You still have to clean the solution out of the weapon after it's done with its cleaning cycle, so I'm not sure you're really saving much time. Don't put night sights in it (according to XS sight systems--I have the standard dot 24/7).
