    .40 ammo cost vs .45

I am getting ready to purchase another pistol, but haven't decided if I want to get a .40 cal, or get a .45 cal. I have compared the cost of the two pistols I am looking at (S&W M&P), and the cost difference for the pistol itself is less than $30. However, I am more concerned about the difference in cost of the ammo. Knowing that ammo prices are considerably higher right now, I am more interested in comparing prices as they were before the big run on ammo , hoping that they will be getting back there soon.

Price comparison is for standard target ammo only. Thanks.

Couple bucks more per 50 rounds for same brand of ammo, 45 cal. 45 is more readily available, at least in my area.

    Here's an example. If 9mm is $10, .40 would be $12.50, and .45 would be $15.

As far as JHP is concerned, I'm now noticing .45 as cheap or even cheaper and more available...

I wish I could find some .45acp. All I can find is that Tula and I would not shoot it in any gun.
    A 9mm might expand but a .45acp never shrinks.

Never cared for the 40. Had a few and offloaded 'em all.

I'd throw rocks at any 40 to get a 45.

But that's just me and my opinion. I find the 45 to have a little less snap, far better accuracy, and 50 grains more bullet weight than the 40. I really see no comparison.

But lots of my friends have 40s and run 'em very well. It's certainly an effective cartridge.

I just prefer the 45. Walmart sells 40 for 36 bucks/100, and 45 for 40 bucks/100. I gladly pay the extra four bucks.
