I can't believe this-I can shoot my compound bow more accurately than I can my 1911 !

At least it looks that way to me!

I haven't had my compound bow long, maybe a month:

I've been working pretty hard on fundamentals and technique and looks like it's starting to pay off! It is coming of an enormous surprise to me that I can shoot my bow more accurately than I can shoot my Kimber 1911s I would have never believed that!

I can pretty much shoot 3" groups at 15 yards off-hand with a Kimber 1911. In comparison, I just shot 10 arrows at a 3 inch dot 35.4 yards away and hit the dot 5 out of ten. Of the remaining 5, some were close; some were fliers, but that's over twice the distance as my handgun and the same size target!

This has put the compound bow in a whole different perspective for me. I had no idea a compound bow was capable of that kind of accuracy.

I did some 50 yard shooting this evening and out of 10 shots (after I got the sight elevation right) one arrow was in the 3" dot with 3 more nicely grouped closely around it. I pulled three shots and simply missed some. Still, 50 yards....I should have taken some pics but I was shooting an arrow, and pulling it out of the target before the next shot. I shot one arrow in the nock and ruined that arro, and shot a fletch off of another arrow before I figured out it might not be a good idea to shoot with arrows in the same target. So anyway, the arrows were never in the target all together so it wouldn't have been an interesting pic(s) anyway.

And, you can often shoot a bow at home without disturbing the neighbors. Of course I disturb the neighbors shooting a bow because my wife says I'm a type A personality and when I do good, I let the neighbors know it with all my whooping and hollering ( holler is southern for yelling, e.g. holler at your brother and tell him supper is ready).

But my wife is wrong about me being a type A personality - I'm an A+ type - we have more fun!

Good Job... I believe it! Bows and arrows in the right hands can be very accurate...and deadly.

Compound bows are wonderful tools! When you shoot with sights & a release you have an X axis an Y axis and a trigger. not that much different than the crosshairs on a scoped rifle. Except it is different! Therein lies the fun!
    Silent,accurate & deadly...compound bows ya just gota [I]love'em.

BTW you have one great looking outfit!

Doesn't surprise me at all. My sons is on his high school team and they must all use the same equipment (bows, arrows) and can't use sights or a release. You should see these kids shoot. Their groups are amazing.

Be careful shooting at close range..... I can touch shafts at under 20 yds.... when I tune for broadheads I have to shoot individual targets... I hvae slice several shafts in half due to the broadhead contacting an already shot arrow. My max range is 40 yds.... but I can put a quiver in a 3 inch circle

I just started archery, also, with a compound bow. I have an archery range set up in the back. It's a lot of fun. I love it so much I also ordered a Crossbow.

Doesnt surprise me at all. You have sights and consistent anchor points to work with shot to shot. Sights that are as good in all ways as any you will find on a pistol. No sound to flinch from to speak of no recoil to over come or anticipate.

It would actually surprise me if an accomplished compound bow shooter could not be more consistent and accurate shot for shot than a pistol shot at 30 yards.

Just wait until you tube one...that makes all of those ruined arrows worth it!

I guess you won't need that tax stamp for a suppressor any time soon. The furthest I have shoot my Mathews bow at the outdoor range is 40 yards I can hit on a paper plate but I don't know it that is considered a good "group"at that distance. I doubt I could "group" much better with a 1911 at that distance.
(side note) The guy I was shooting with missed his target at 40 yards. there is a dirt backstop but the arrow hit it bounced off and went into next week. I was laughing soo hard, he was mad I thought he was going to punch me. Those arrows can go a long long way! We never did find the arrow in the field behind the back stop.

As far as groups go if you can get your arrows consistently into a 8 inch circle at 30 yrds your good to go for white tails. At that yardage with a relatively fast bow one pin will do the job from 10 yards to thirty yards holding dead on.

Elk longer range you need more pins. I personally wont shoot at a whitetail from more than 30 yards with a fast bow. Not that you cant hit the size area you need to but a whitetail is fast enough to be either not there by the time the arrow is or moved way to much and you wind up with a gut shot or a miss.

Elk moose arent so fast so longer range shots are good on them. My buddy took one at 70 yards 3 yrs ago on a elk hunt with a bow.

You guys, NOBODY TELL SCHUMER AND FEINSCHWEIN!!!

Next thing you know, quivers holding more than five arrows will be Federally regulated and you'll need a background check to get your bow re-strung.
