What NOT to have when entering a military facility

    Yep...im stupid.
I am a govt. contractor and work across the street from the base, so I go through the gate every day...no big deal. Well today, I just so happened to get randomly inspected. It happens...but hasnt happened in three months. SO i pull over open my doors trunk hood etc etc. The guy starts looking and finds my old new york state pistol permit..... so of course he assumes I had a weapon, which I did not. Then he finds a holster that I need to return for repair, and again asks me where my weapon is... which i did not have. ..... Then he opened my work bag which so happens to have a set of range muffs in it for working in aircraft. Needless to say, they tossed my car like I was ZEta overlord. Buried under my seats they found about 300 rnds of spilled 22 LR, a full box of turkey loads, a box of shotgun primers, 2 hunting knives, my missing fast loader for my blackpowder rifle, my release for my bow, 1 1/2 pairs of hunting gloves, and a patridge in a pear tree.

If you EVER need to go on military base, clean out from under your seats. I spent and hour getting inspected all because I havent cleaned my car recently. Save yourself the headache. Luckily, I work with the security commander and he took care of it for me. I really wouldnt have been in a lot of trouble but it was still more than i want to deal with. Learn from me.

I work on a base every day. Could be serious charges. I would go through the gate with anything unless I declared it.

Yeah! While they were at it they could have at least scraped up the .22's, DX-ed the holster for a new one, spotted you some CLP to oil your knives, and grilled the partridge in some nice Italian dressing for dinner...what are they teaching these MP's these days?? ()

with a CWP, can you carry on base as a civilian?
I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

NO...NO....NO....... A miltary installation is free to make its own rules when it comes those kinds of things, and the answer is always no. Whne I lived on base, to keep my firearms on post i had to register them with the provost marshal and carry a registration card for each firearm just to get them throught he gate. Also, the base has a huge "No personal weapons" sign as you drive in.

I will happuily take the 22 ammo..... that gives me about 900 rnds now lol. On a positive note, the MP laughed and asked if I wanted to sell some 22 ammo...I wasnt sure if he was joking though.

I have found that the weapons on base policy tends to vary from base to base due to the base commander setting the policy. BTW, every base I have been on sold hunting knives, tactical knives, and some even sold guns and ammo at the exchange.

    300 rounds of .22?

Sounds like a blessing in disguise to me.

I just received my CHP on Friday, so today was the first day I ever carried at work. I too work as a contractor, but I'm a one man office, so I get to set policy for the facility :). My buddy down the hall works for another company. He decided there was an SR9 he had to have on base, so he invited me along to see his new toy. I had to disarm and lock up my gun before we left. He went through the whole paperwork drill and was escorted to the parking lot before they turned over the gun in the case to him. They must have told him 4 times to have the receipt on hand in case he got stopped by security and to make sure he told them he had just purchased the gun from the BX.

So yeah, you can buy guns and ammo on base, you just can't possess it while you are there, if that makes any sense.

You can thank me for helping you find that ammo LOL.

That reminds me of a joke going around about how Bubba called the local Sheriff and tipped them off about how Ray had hidden a cocaine stash inside his wood pile, they raided the wood pile and chopped all the wood up but didn't find any Coke, they left mad as hell.Later Bubba called Ray and asked if the Sheriff showed up and Ray said yep,Bubba asked did they chop up your wood and Ray said yep,Bubba said you can thank me for helping you get your firewood chopped up
