    This has been blocked

So I'm currently sitting in the waiting room at the DR. office. I got bored and decided I'd see what was going on on here. Well the "free WIFI" here has this and any other web site that has to do with guns blocked. So I turned off my wifi setting so I could still get on. I guess gun websites are "bad for you" now so the healthcare professionals are protecting us.

I've run into this in a few places, mainly healthcare facilities. I'm actually surprised that I am still able to access all my gun sites while on my college campus's wifi.

If you check I bet any anti-American site such as the brady site are not blocked.

I think it's a program that blocks all kinds of sites. Go to your favorite radio stations web page and click on "Listen Now" button. That will probably be blocked too.

You were right. I can read all the anti-American junk I can find. Go figure.

hey, they own the wifi so they can block whatever they want. I really hope we have some good pro-gun candidates next elections so we can change the tempo of this " save America, guns are bad " attitude. its a bunch of bull .

It makes me think you're getting the same web service that the rest of the facility is on. My company has a net nanny that blocks all kinds of sites. Some are obvious, like porn sites, but others just seem to be random and sometimes different sites work one day and not the next. They may have all forum access blocked to keep employees from wasting time at work like I'm doing right now. LOL.

LOL>....I see this at my work, this site is blocked due to "WEAPONS". But I can go to S&W, COLT and most gun manufacturers. I can also go to some other gun forums, but this one is blocked. I am glad someone out there is looking out for me.....Ya right! This silencing just gets ridiculous and stupid, there is always a work around to getting what you want.

The Marion County Library wi-fi also blocks this site. "weapon related".

No, as stated previously the main thing it has to do with worker productivity. Also to block access to child porn and the like from war drivers that would put the business location at legal risk. Most companies will just purchase the filter and install it as shipped. They have the ability to fine tune the filter but most likely don't have a real IT person to oversee it.

The programs make errors and will block some legitimate sites in the wrong category. Like blocking Toyota as porn. Usually someone will report it and get it corrected.

Now that would piss me off. I hear cries about "censorship" all the time when public libraries put filters on the web. Unfortunately it usually has to do with some loser using the library computers to view porn.

Most of these devices get a list of IP's and sites to block, sorted by category's. the admin just checks the boxes for what category's to allow or disallow. Most of the time the admins have no idea what sites are in those lists, they just get updated from the provider on a schedule.

They do have the ability to block or unblock manually, but good luck finding out who's in charge of it.

Most of those are probably run off the corporate side firewall and proxies so your getting the same blocks that the office people would have. Most smaller places (heck even the bigger ones) aren't going to spend the money on a completely separate network and Internet connection.
