Dick's considering the return of ARs and handguns

    Hey All,

I'm a part-time employee at Dick's Sporting Goods. I work in the gun department. I just want everyone to know that Dick's is seriously considering the return of ARs and sale of handguns. The decision to get rid of ARs was easy for Dick's because we didn't sell any. So, if you are ever in Dick's let the managers know that you want them to sell ARs. It does no good to tell the employees. You're just preaching to the the choir.

I hate DSG as much as the next guy, but would love to see us expand from just long guns. And hey, we are cheaper than Cabela's and we let you open carry.

I hear what you are saying but they did not stand up to the heat before, and when it happens again they probably would fold like a house of cards so I don't expect much from them in the way of handguns or Automatic Rifles. They lost my patronage the last goround...They will have to earn my business back with action.

Regarding whether or not they were selling ARs before they announced they wouldn't - they had the beginning of a very large contract for ARs literally days from the start of nationwide delivery. Very nice ones. They were obviously sold quickly to other distributors and customers.

Everybody is cheaper than Cabela. There is nothing Dick's could ever do to re-gain my business.

I measure my friends, partners, customers and providers by how they behave when times are bad, not good.

I understand your enthusiasm to increase the product line for your employer, however I'll not spend another dime there.

But I will give you credit for saying "I hate DSG as much as the next guy". Now let's just hope your handle is not your real name and that no managers from DSG are members of this forum.

Oh, so now that the political heat has died down, Dicks is going to act like they didn't screw gun owners by appeasing Uncle's political assault on the second amendment? Little would make me happier than to see the public boycott Dick's for their hypocrisy.

Dicks' lost my business way before the AR fiasco. I went in to buy an 870 shottie for home defense. I start filling out the 4473 and am just about finished when the guy behind the counter hands me another form. It was a form that Dick's had put together and they wanted to collect my contact information, phone number, driver license number, social security number etc. I asked the guy what the heck is this and he informed me that Dick's kept a record of all their firearm's transactions just in case. I asked in case of what? As he was attempting to answer, I was folding the 4473 up and putting in my pocket. He asked what I was doing and I told him "I'm taking my business elsewhere". He then told me I needed to give him the form back. I said no thank you and walked out. Haven't been back since.

It is very hard to get customers back once you lose them. I am sure Dick's will find this to be true even if they start selling handguns and AR's again, particularly the customers who had their pre-orders canceled.

The question is, are customers seriously considering a return to Dick's? Putting political correctness before their customers is not a good move for any business. Putting guns back on the shelf isn't enough, IMO they need to acknowledge their mistake with a public apology. And not the usual "we're sorry if we offended you" BS, something meaningful and serious, like "it was wrong for us to hold our customers responsible for the actions of a murderous sociopath."

No offense, but a things stand, I'd drive 100 miles out of my way to go to a Cabela's instead.

I've never bought a firearm from Dicks and probably never will. I was about to buy some expensive exercise equipment from Dicks. Then they turned libtard and I haven't gone back. What the idiot libtard execs at Dicks failed to understand was "gun" buyers are also sporting good buyers. People who buy firearms for sport & defense also buy a lot of other sporting goods. So, they lost a lot more business than just firearm sales.

(BTW, the Dicks here did have a couple of "hunting/camo" AR's in stock before they caved. So, I'm not sure how accurate the OP is in his statement.)
