    Glock slide question

anyone notice how on most Glocks the recoil guide rod hole in the slide is just a thin tab that sticks down. The Glock 34/35 has a more reinforced slide where the recoil spring/guide rod are seated. Is that a stronger design?

It may be stronger since there is more metal but I'd imagine it wasn't built for added strength as much as just to cover the gap. Longer slide without that extra metal would leave the recoil spring exposed since the frame is the same as used on the G17/G22 which have shorter slides. They needed to add a dust cover so the easy way was to add to the slide vs make a whole new longer frame.
