    Newest Firearms (pix)

Looked for a pic thread. Couldn't find one.

Arrived today 1971 E series shooter carried by a PA State Trooper and then assistant Chief in the 1970s, and then locked away... Till now...

He clothed it in Safari Land grips that were pretty much shot. The factory grips hadn't been on the revolver since the day it was purchased and could be brand new (so I took them off). The grips I put on are just Colt Rosewoods, but the prettiest pair I've ever seen. They must have cut these close to the root because they almost look like burl.

A really nice Colt Python! Blued Pythons are my favorite of all though the others are nice too. A good, all-around barrel length for range or field use. Those stocks are eye-popping! I love to look at pretty wood with lots of contrasting figure.

I had my 6-inch Python out yesterday afternoon to pit it against another Colt .357 Magnum revolver on accuracy. The Python did slightly beat out the other Colt ... this time.

It was semi-intentional. I knew someone would either like that, or hate it, or both.

Also arriving today is a 1933 Official Police shooter. Lots of holster wear but this thing was loved by some flatfoot in the "G.R.P.D."...? Grand Rapids, MI? It's hard to justify a Colt Letter on a $400 revolver, but I would like to know...

Lock up is still tight, and it's darn near as smooth as a Python. Seriously. I know they made a hundred thousand of these things, and they're not hand fitted and buttery smooth like the Pythons, but both the double pull and the cock are SWEET! I can't wait to shoot both this weekend!

Two good 'uns posted on the same day! Can it get any better than this? I love 4-inch Official Police revolvers (oh, face it. I just love Official Police revolvers). A respected lawman's side arm for much of the 20th century and there's much to be admired about that. And they are smooth as well. Not certain that the vaunted Pythons can whip them by much on smoothness of action. I have an NYPD Official Police that's 20 years newer than yours. I love the revolver but think the pre-war half-moon front sight looks more "proper" and is more appealing, if perhaps a bit harder to see when aiming in some light conditions.

They are BOTH beautiful to me.

Those old Official Police and Police Positives always remind me of Hollywood's film noir era.

Exactly! Whenever I handle one I think about black and white movies, police cars with the big,high-profile lights on the top, and those raspy, old sirens that sounded like the Luftwaffe was about to drop screamers.

How do you compair the OP with the PP, OD*?
