    1884 Trapdoor **UPDATE**

Well, sadly, no info can be found on my Trapdoor other than it was manufactured in 1887.

Got a call from Keith at Trapdoors Galore who confirmed that of the 500,000 made, records exist for only about 25,000 since the Army got rid of and lost most of them long ago. That if really too bad.

I described the rifles condition to him and he says it sounds like it is in pretty good shape really and that for less than $400 he can replace the missing parts, fix it up and clean it up and tell me if it would be able to be fired. When I told him I was really mainly interested in making it a display piece he said that would be no problem.

So we will see. I think I will be sending it to him in the near future.

Maybe some "before" and "after" pics?

Fix it up, then if you want to use it as a display you can, but if you want to shoot it later you can .... and don't have to worry about availability of parts, etc. or the knowledge base to fix it. Never know what can happen between now and then.
