.45 - long colt in .410 shotgun? Technical Question.

I was wandering around Gander today and had a thought. I have a Judge and at one point purchsed a combo pack of .410 and .45 long colt. I am asking this question out of curiosity more than anything. If the judge can shoot the .45 lc,can it be safely fired through a single shot .410 shotgun? I understand the Judge has a slight rifling in the barrel and I am fairly sure the shot gun does not. I have no plans to do this, just a question.

The first to rounds in the Judge I carry in the truck have .410 shells and the last three are Colt .45 Longs. When you shoot the shot shells the shot is in a plastic cup and it does have a little spin coming out the bore. The pattern opens up real fast.

... .410 shotgun barrel is not pressure rated for the .45 Colt...very unsafe idea...

I agree, No But I don't think its the pressure that would stop me, it would be the choke. Most .410 bore guns are full choke. My bullets are .452 and .454, they might make it down the .410 barrel but add the choke and I think you are in trouble! H&R makes a shot gun that is convertable, But it uses an over sized bore and a removable choke. The choke for 45 colt is rifled but Ive heard that accuracy is pretty poor. DR

About half way down the page.

If you're going to try to stuff a .452" bullet through a .390" choke, don't do it around me, and DO shoot video for posterity.

I wonder how many .410 shotguns have been blown up thanks to the Judge.

I have no idea how many have been blown up. I was very specific that I had no intention of doing this. Just like to learn all I can.

He should do it, and take video. Fun is part of life. Danger can be avoided with preparation...

Sassing Mama ain't dangerous it's suicidal! I also try to keep the ammo what's marked on the barrel unless it's a .38 in a .357.

I've never fired a judge, but I do have it's big brother. The circuit judge handles the 45lc or 410 just fine. It does come with a different choke if you want to go 410 only.
