Colorado teen shot and killed in prank gone wrongWell, the story is a little short on details but I call BS on the LEOs saying it happened as described and not filing charges of manslaughter and/or murder. Even if it was all a "death by misadventure" the shooter needs to NEVER touch a gun again, or anything else remotely dangerous.(CNN) — The combination of a gun and a surprise gone wrong left a beloved 18-year-old track star dead, authorities in Longmont, Colorado, say.
Premila Lal jumped out of a closet as a harmless joke to surprise a family friend, her father says. But the noise startled the friend, who grabbed a gun and shot her.

While I feel sorry for the father at the tragic and needless death of his daughter, maybe this will finally serve as a warning to the idiots that thinks it is funny to jump out of closets and scare people! I recall seeing a video several months ago of a real jackass who jumped out of the closet to scare his girl friend and a friend of hers when they came home. They ran screaming and terrified out of the room and he cracked up laughing thinking it was funny. I thought at the time it wouldn't be so funny if someone tried that idiotic stunt with someone who was armed! Looks like it finally happened. Too many idiots pull stupid stunts without thinking of the possible consequences!

You're right, not a lot of details. But I'm having a hard time understanding how someone can go from being startled, getting a gun, (unless it was on him) and shooting someone before the prankster was identified by the shooter. Not saying that it didn't happen, but just seems a bit strange to me that the victim wasn't recognized within a second or two. Hmm.

That was just really dumb and stupid. You can't do stuff like that anymore.Pranks are fun,but people really needs to think before they do stuff like this.
I'm pretty sure,i wouldn't have shot,until i saw the person first.
Sorry, this isn't America's Funniest Home Videos anymore. Its not the 1980's. This prank was stupid from the get-go especially since its very likely that both brother and sister knew he had a gun.
It sounds like he had it on him or near him. It was an instinctive reaction from what I am getting. The article does not have any sufficient details to be sure. But I tend to put this on the dead girl not the shooter.

What a sad event. There's not much detail in the story to really comment on this tradgedy.
My guess is that further investigation by the local authorities will find that there is a lot more to this story than we currently know......

"Premila and her cousin hid in a closet and made noises to scare Galley and the other teen. Galley, a gun owner, provided a gun to the teen and they began to search the house. Galley fired when they isolated the sounds."
It doesn't read like a startled draw.
"To reject the notion of expertise, and to replace it with a sanctimonious insistence that every person has a right to his or her own opinion, is silly."
Oh i've pulled some pranks before but nothing like this.Like the others have said, something doesn't seem right.
Read the newspaper article. It provides much more detail.
This sounds like a horrible tragedy.
