Middle Schoolers Suspended for Airsoft at Home

Boys suspended for airsoft guns in yard - Local News - Portsmouth, VA | NBC News

Monday, a suspended seventh grade Virginia Beach student will find out if he is expelled for the rest of the year for shooting an airsoft gun.

Like thousands of others in Hampton Roads, Khalid Caraballo plays with airsoft guns. Caraballo and his friend Aidan were suspended because they shot two other friends who were with them while playing with the guns as they waited for the bus to come.

WAVY News' Andy Fox spoke with Khalid and asked if he took the gun to the bus stop or school. Khalid answered "No, sir," to both questions.

Aidan's father Tim Clark told WAVY.com what happened next lacks commons sense. The children were suspended for possession, handling and use of a firearm.
Unfortunately, it's in my back yard. Thoughts?

EDIT: If anyone has the desire to let the school administration know what you think, you can find the email address for the principal and assistant principals at this page:

If its not on school grounds at all, then this is stupid. Once again, school administration flexing its commie control over kids....

So these kids were suspended because they were playing with toys, that resembled firearms, no where near school, or a bus stop on their PRIVATE PROPERTY?

this is beyond idiotic, something is missing, its to insane for the whole picture to be here.

Simple solution: File a civil suit against the School District each and every time they try to pull a stunt like this.(Denial of right to public education) No hesitation at all if it involved me directly.

An air gun, by definition and function, is not a firearm.

As much as I despise litigation, it's the only thing these brain-dead 'scholars' are going to understand.

I think it's about time people start asking their legislators to prevent this stupid "zero tolerance" nonsense.

As with practically everything else anti gun this is stupidity that would have been beyond belief 40 yrs ago.

However with some recent opinions ive seen on gun forums on other subjects it would not surprise me a great deal to see someone come along and post support for this in the name of responsible gun owners

Schools are extensions of the Progressive agenda (meaning SOCIALISM). They can control what you child eats at home, they can control what your family teaches your child at home, and now they can punish YOU for teaching your child about FIREARMS. (Now if you dressed little Johnny up in Suzie's dresses they'd all applaud you!). It's time to take back America and tell these NIMRODS no more !

I am so sick of this woosified nanny state mentality of the people controlling our school boards!!! When I was a kid, we played with toy guns all the time! We either played cowboys and Indians or "War", where we were fighting the Nazis or the Japs! I had cap guns and BB guns as a kid. When I was a teenager I had .22 rifles and a shotgun, learned safe gun handling procedures, shot in an NRA junior program, and hunted. This was NORMAL behavior back then! Our leftist leaning progressive nanny state has taken what was "normal" childhood behavior and made it "abnormal" now! It's a damn good thing the people leading this country now weren't in charge back in the late 30's/early 40's! We'd all be speaking German here and in Europe and Japanese in Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the Pacific area!!!

Apparently a woman called 911 said she knew he didn't have a real gun and he had a back stop on the target. But claimed it made her uncomfortable to see a boy pointing a gun. Apparently so uncomfortable that she couldn't retrieve her own son who was playing in the same yard. So between her and the school officials who took this and ran with it what a bunch of buffoons!
