Force Science Institute - Cop Attackers and Their Weapons

I have been doing some research on load data lately and came across a site that I have never seen before, but thought I would post it here for the "Forum Family" to review. A brief look at the site has me thinking that there might be some excellent data there for folks to study. I have posted a link to some of their published data on "Cop Attackers and Their Weapons", plus a link to their web site. I would post the data here, but it is long and I do not have authorization to reproduce it here in our forum. I have never heard of them, as I said, and would like to hear what you think.

What is most interesting to me was the break down of the areas studied:

    • Weapon of Choice
    • Shooting Style
    • Hit Ratio
    • Missed Clues by officers

    Etc......

LEO's Past and Present - Have you guys/gals heard of them or participated in their training??

It sounds like they are following the logic behind the violence, much like a FBI profiler would....

Yep...take a look at some of the topics they have posted on their site as well. It looks like they have been featured on some television programs, but I don't recall seeing any of them. A few of the topics they discuss might interest you.

None of the offenders utilized a holster. That in itself is very telling.

I've subscribed to Force Science for years and get updated materials all the time by email. Their research is very telling and advancing officers understanding of issues they deal with daily. They are worth the read.

Interesting fact about how the offenders got their guns:
"all but one were obtained illegally, usually in street transactions or in thefts. In contrast to media myth, none of the firearms in the study was obtained from gun shows."

    Additionally:
"Researcher Davis, in a presentation and discussion for the International Assn. of Chiefs of Police, noted that none of the attackers interviewed was "hindered by any law--federal, state or local--that has ever been established to prevent gun ownership. They just laughed at gun laws."

I've seen that over and over for years. Criminals illegally carrying almost NEVER use holsters.

But I've never understood why. You're carrying illegally, so why wouldn't you spend $20-$40 on something to properly conceal it without it hanging or falling out? Half the time they get caught because police watch them holding up their gun as they walk. There's no background check on holsters. It would seem lack of education about carrying would be the only reason...yet many gang bangers are actually really educated about guns, and some quite practiced with them.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe they want to be able to quickly dump the gun, so they think dumping the holster couldn't be done quickly enough and would give away that they had been carrying a minute ago? Dunno.

Maybe it's harder to steal a holster than a pistol...

The holster clashes with their gang colors.

The main reason is if they have to toss the gun the cops aren't going to find an empty holster

Try this. Get a pair of pants three sizes too big. Dont wear a belt. Push them down over your hips. Now put you best IWB holster on and see how that works for ya LOL

Seriously, why invest in a holster for a stolen gun you may ditch at any time. Talk about your drawer full of holsters... yikes.

EDIT: I mean, I guess there's those small/medium/large nylon cheapie ones, but... blech. At that point might as well pocket carry, or if you're brave, Mexican carry. The latter probably makes people feel like bad mamma jammas (<- avoiding swears ;) )

Posting from my phone, I blame all typos on Swype.
