Red face to FN 5.7 or not to 5.7 that is the question

Ok, new poster here, just looking for opinions. I have a chance to buy a new FN 5.7 (1st Gen) and an addition 3 magazines if I want them. Obviously this is not a "need" but it is fun, albeit expensive to shoot.

Any reasons I should run out right this minute and buy it?

Any reasons I should say thanks but no thanks?

    Thanks!

I want one! VERY expensive to shoot, and I don't believe there is any defensive ammo on the market yet.

My friend has one. It is very nice! If you can afford it, I say do it! You can reload 5.7 to reduce the cost of ammunition since they are kinda pricy for a handgun round. It was a joy to shoot and super accurate at long distances.

    1) If you don't need the money for something a bit more effective.

    2) If you need a very accurate handgun for a specific reason. That of which does not come to mind.

It is on my wish list too. Unless there is something wrong with it or something you need more, I would go for it.

Here you go for LEO ammunition: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=369570943

Right at $1.00 per round! I personally shoot the 40gr V-Max at maybe $0.75 per round!

Thanks for the LEO link! My local shop today actually had both FN and American 5.7 (not LEO) but I was surprised they had any at all. $32-36 a box of 50. Not too bad considering.....

If your looking for a good SHTF pistol...definately. Love the round, and the mag capacity. I just wouldnt train with it as that would burn a whole in the wallet real fast.

Buy it, put it away and hoard about 500 rounds of ammo for it.

When the next gun panic/ban comes- sell it.

And that sums up my opinion of the pistol perfectly.

The round might be fun for handloading and experimenting if put up in some sort of a micro-bolt action or small single shot rife. For handgun use, its unique trait seems to be its small sized and lightweight bullet traveling at a velocity a good bit higher than conventional handgun cartridge can achieve. This unique trait of the 5.7X28 doesn't give it any particular advantage in terminal ballistics over any of several other conventional handgun cartridges so I personally wouldn't take the 5.7X28 very seriously if used in a handgun.

Now all bets are off if it's fun factor we're talking about.

It would be mainly for fun .... It would be nice to pair it with the ps90 as my SHTF set. Otherwise, it'll just be the cool gun I pull out to pick up on the guys on the range. You know, start the "hey who's that woman with the 5.7" type of play. JUST KIDDING.

    Thanks for the feed back!
