    Dumbest thing you have seen while shooting out on BLM land

    I have BLM land close to where I live, so I never go to a range anymore and I created a list of stupid things that I have seen.
    1. Dirt bikers coming over the top of a hill that it is commonly used as a trap range/shooting area and driving down the middle of the range while we were setting up targets.
    2. Dirt bikers driving across my line of fire when shooting my mosin when I can be seen for about 1 click in every direction.
    3. Driving to one of my shooting spots and seeing people shooting trap on the side of the road (regs say 1/4 mile off any main road or trail head).
    4. Side by Side driving through the range of a ccw class out there to pick up brass (the teacher got extremely ticked about that).
    Disclaimer: I do not hate off roaders. I have a dirt bike and I take it out quite often. Most dirt bikers atvers etc are very conscious of where they are off-roading.

    A women swinging a .357 magnum back and forth while down range. To top it off she pulled the trigger and the bullet went between a buddy and I. We left after a few choice words...,.

    That's gotta be the worst thing I've ever heard at a gun range. Your signature says it all for that woman.

    For my stupidest thing was a few years ago a man, formerly my step-brother, and I went to a range out by the house. He had me go put up HIS target. As a good younger brother I did as I was told. On my way back to behind the firing line he had his AK at the ready with one in the chamber. He told me to hurry and get out of the way. I told him that I wouldn't and that he's an idiot for pointing a rifle down range while I was still out there. He told me that if I didn't move he'd fire whether I was out of the path of the bullet or not. Needless to say I didn't enjoy my day at the range. After a while he asked me why I was so upset...go figure.

    A few stupid things that others have covered ... with folks failing to exercise safe handling, folks wandering across the shooting area.

    Have also seen altogether too many instances of people leaving the place a pig sty, with refuse, targets and brass all over the place. No wonder why so many such places end up getting closed via the BLM for cause. Dumb, big-time.

    Well I was going to ask what is BLM land is but after these few posts I think I rather not know that way I don't get curious and go looking for some. Think I will stick to my private club.
    Those are my principles, and if you don't like them.....well, I have others.

    If this is public land, is it posted as a pistol/rifle range? If it isn't then you have nothing to complain about. Shooting on public land is free so you're getting what you're paying for.

    On a few occasions the following has occurred while shooting on BLM land;
    Everyone is usually a good quarter mile or more away from each other when shooting, all in the same direction. Once some shooters swigging beer pulled up next to us and starting shooting at an angle at our targets. Another time a local "home boy" set targets right next to me and shots two pistols, one in each hand, vertically, (gangster style), with his head cocked to the side while talking on his cell phone! Another time some shooters set up targets directly behind us to shoot in an arroyo behind us. When crazy stuff like that happens, it's time to pack up and leave. And once, a car load of Mexican Nationals drove by us asking if we were willing to sell them some or all of our firearms for a good price. I politely told them in Spanish to leave the area and not ask any other shooter the same question.

    Just because its free, does not mean that people should act foolish. Especially, with firearms. At a public range I do not expect to be shot at. So I guess that gives me the right to complain....

    That's my biggest pet peeve. Doesn't matter if it's an approved range or just an old sand pit. Leave it as clean, or cleaner than when you arrived.
