    ND at Kentucky Capitol Annex

Eastern KY Representative Leslie Combs let one rip in her office today. She mentions that she has a CCDW but doesn't bother to explain why she had Roscoe out and why her booger hook hit the bang switch.

She has received endorsements from the NRA in the past and appears to be gun friendly. But this stunt would cost her some ratings points if I was grading for the NRA. Surely some anti-gunners in the Kentucky legislature will use this against us.

Familiarity breeds contempt. A moments lapse for a public official lasts forever.

Sounds like no one was hurt.

A friend of mine who is a DA did the same thing in his office with a S&W 642. Fortunately it was late in the evening and no one else was around. He quietly called someone from maintenance later to patch the hole in the ceiling. He told me about it, but I doubt anyone else other than the maintenance guy.

    Saw this on MSN:

Ky. lawmaker fires gun in office, calls it a mistake

At least she's allowed to carry in her office and the chamber!

    Sense of proportion and perspective.

Gotta love Kentucky, for a lot of reasons.

Of course, it's nice to see she recognizes the failing for what it is. Fortunately nobody was harmed. Might well not be so lucky next time. Hopefully she'll adjust her procedure and handling. And, by all means, if she's going to be fumbling with loading/unloading inside an office space, I'd hope she would invest in a 5gal bucket of sand and do it right.

This person was incorrect / extremely inaccurate saying the gun "accidently misfires"

Representative's gun accidentally misfires in her Capitol Annex office - Frankfort & Franklin County, Kentucky

Pulling the trigger is not an accident, nor did the gun misfire; it did exactly what it was supposed to do when the trigger is pulled.

If you can't accurately describe an event, don't.

Agree with everything but one. The NRA taking grading points from her over that while leaving a rabid anti gun would be tyrant like Harry Reid a B rating would be more than hypocritical. It would be totally insane. Pandering to the other side to appear one thing or the other can only be excused to a point.

    Yup.

    Alternate, more-correct rendition:

State Representative unintentionally fired gun in her Capitol Annex office
    No one injured

    By ccw9mm

The first day of the 2014 legislative session started off with a bang Tuesday when Rep. Leslie Combs fired her gun unintentionally in her Capitol Annex office.

Combs, D-Pikeville, said in a statement released Wednesday that no one was "hurt or in harmís way." She had failed to first ensure the gun was unloaded and clear, prior to performing the final unloading step of pulling the trigger.

"I urge everyone to be extremely cautious with their firearm," Combs said in the statement. "I know from personal experience how easy it is to discharge a firearm if the proper safety procedures are not assiduously followed and verified."

    <snip>

Yeah, well. Live and learn. At least she pointed the darned thing in a moderately safe direction prior to putting that booger hook on the gun without first unloading it and verifying it was unloaded. I guess that's something.
