home shop gunsmithing
Hi all,If any one remembers i bought a High standard 1911 government model weapon a while back.I chose to buy this gun after looking at a few and chose it because of price, since I intended to use it for carry and to experiment with a little home gunsmithing and didnt want to foul up an expensive hand gun.I got it home took it apart and realised it was a bad gun.I mean not top notch but fair for a little over 400 dollars.now I know what you all are thinking I dont know a good gun lol but I do have some very high end guns and some mediocher ones this one falls a little better that middle of the road out of the box for a plain Jane gun. for this reason I have been carrying for a while . Ok enough back ground to the heart of this.
I got online ad after a little looking for what I would like in a hand gun both looks and function I set out to improve this cheap filipino gun.
i was going to add photos but there to big and i have no idea how to make them smaller so ill just give you a list of improvements
1) I order a willson trigger ultra light match long with adjustable over travel part number 190
2)A high ride beavertail also from willsons in stainless part number298s
this part requires some cutting of the frame and should be done with the jig you can order from the same place as the parts unless your more confident than i was
3)stainless tactical mag release part number31ts A word here this part needed some enlarging of the right side of the frame time consuming since you dont want to over do it or it will operate sloppy
4)A ultralight skeletonized hammer also in stainless #337s
5)extended thumb safety #6s stainless
6)and an extended slide release also in stainless
So far total cost of parts from midway under 200 and a little of my time .You might wounder why all the stainless on a Matt black gun well i tell you it looks so sharp lol also found a guy in south Jordan Utah that will Teflon coat my frame and slide for 45 dollars so im thinking it will look real good a operate slick only things to do before sending off to coating is to have the slid cut for a slide in front sight and finish taking burrs and tool marks off the operating surfaces
if this post is too long feel free to delete it you wont hurt my feelings
No prob's snake - good to know your project has gone well. Sounds overall pretty successful.
Re pic's - go and download this freebie - Irfanview. Go to http://www.irfanview.com/ and download and then install it - it does not write to registry much at all and so is very benign.
Once you have checked it out you'll see it does various things including resizing. Choose 640x480 and compress with JPG to perhaps 60% or so - that way you'll get a reduced pic and not too huge a file. Make copies of the originals tho - and so process those for smaller pics.
Then attach the pics - always good to see what you have been working on.
thanks as always cris ill try agine says up load failed will keep trying
Snake - that single one ''took'' but - it was BMP and way small.
Reduce to 640x480 - it's a preset option and then save as JPG to get a file of about 50k to 100k.
Keep at it!
try chaing the files in jpg's they will load here
Sounds lie it would be a good looking pistol. I really like the different 2 tone guns out there. (except for the gold tone taurus line.)
rocky is right. a two tone gun does look good.
sorry guys cant seem to convert them mabey another time
I have sent back a PM - keep trying. It's not so hard once you get hang of it.
Once you do actually crack the problem you'll wonder why it was so hard!
ok fellas couldnt figure it out yet but im stuborn so i posted the photos in the members gallery thanks agine
Well done Grant - that helps.
There snake - at last :smilez: Lot of work you put in there.
