Hammer bite Browning high power ?
I guess age is catching up with me (life huh) I have had Hi Powers in the past and never had that problem. But recently bought a HP practical in 40 cal.and ouch! I was wondering if installing a C&S hammer will help? Or any other ideas would be appreciated.

Haven't handled a new BHP but my old one and current BHP Practical do not bother me.
It has seemed over the years that some folks get bit - others don't - and I can only think it's primarily a function of grip - plus maybe an extra fleshiness in web of hand.

Sorry, I haven't had a problem with this either, and the hammer on mine is one of the older hammers with the full, long spur.

I've never had my BHP Mark II's (or another BHP) hammer bite me either.

They can bite if you have fat hands, or choke up to much on the pistol. I suppose the hammer could help out some, but I think its more of a grip issue if your getting bit by a bhp.

I think that people who shoot with High thumb are more prone to hammerbite. The only time I have experienced it was after I gaind a lot of weight on my hands and had a lot of extra flesh. I don't shoot in competition so I use the low thumb method.

BHP factory ring hammers are more prone to bite you than the standard in my experience. If yours has the ring hammer, about the only way to fix it is a C&S hammer. If it's got the standard spur hammer, you can cut about half of the spur off and it'll still look and function fine.

We (AMU) Fort Gordon, in past years learned to roll the weapon into your hand from above, then maintain a firm grip to proclude hammer bite from the 45 auto. HP should be the same!!
