I had an odd request this morning

At least I thought it was odd.

I have no problem when I am shooting with friends of lending out a firearm and generally in return, getting one myself to shoot. I'm sure most of us have tried a buddy's gun and let them try one of ours at the range. Sometimes it is one way and I'll offer mine up for a few shots regardless if I want to shoot anything they have or not.
So anyway, this morning I called up one of my buddies to point out a 1911 to him he might want to check out. He asked if I got anything new and I told him about my Delta Elite. Then he said I would have to let him shoot it... and here's the kicker... because his is "unfired"

He has a newer stainless steel DE that he paid too much for at the LGS. It came complete with the box, instructions, and an idiot mark from taking it apart. The inside has powder deposits and the barrel has what looks like some unburned powder in it. If he thinks it's unfired that's fine by me. I'm sure the owner of the shop worked his charm on him and told him it was, but it sure doesn't look it to me. And it is not in 100% condition.

Anyway, I just felt like publically scratching my head on this one. I'm sure I'll let him run a mag through my DE if I happen to have it with me, but it sounded funny being asked to shoot mine because he doesn't want to shoot his. I didn't realize that he bought it not wanting to shoot it or truly believed it was unfired.

'Reminds me of a guy I knew in college who asked to borrow some change for a soda as we passed a vending machine. He then pocketed the change and kept on walking.

Yeah I'm with you. Sounds kind of D-baggish to want to shoot your friend's gun just to keep the rounds off your "unfired" gun. It's like saying the same to go out to eat with a friends and saying to take his car cuz it has more miles on it.

There are no "unfired guns" that come out of the factory, just like you can't get a car with zero miles on it.

I should just tell him to bring his own ammo.
I'll guarantee he doesn't have any 10mm if he doesn't intend to shoot it.
    What a waste.

He may be a "buddy", whatever that means, but he certainly is no friend.

Not true at all. I bought my car with exactly zero miles on it. I test drove and found what I liked and then asked when they get the next truck in. I went and picked it up three days later. mileage was zero.

Back in high school a guy asked me to lend him a dollar until tomorrow. OK. The next day I asked someone if they had seen him. Turns out he moved. And borrowed a lot of "one dollars" the previous day. Maybe your buddy is that guy.
