The 1911 is its own toolbox

I thought this was really interesting. John Browning designed many parts of the 1911 pistol to be used as tools in its own disassembly and assembly. No other tools are needed. Browning was a genius!

After more than 25 years with my 1911's I never knew or considered this. I still don't see myself using the parts for tools, but it's good to know.

Been using various 1911 parts as tools on the gun for 30+ years.

Same here, I never thought of the parts as tools and wouldn't have. I can't see myself using any parts as tools either but I guess in an emergency it's nice to know.

Quite ingenious, as the original target market would probably not be around a work bench when they were cleaning or servicing these guns.
