Can my girlfriend put a rifle on layaway for me?

My girlfriend may be putting a rifle on layaway for me. I would be making the rest of the payments, and filling out the paperwork in person at the FFL once the balance is paid off. Should this be an issue?

Would depend on the stores policy more than anything. Don't see why not though.

Long guns are not on any list for a wait period in Maryland most all are cash and carry . ( even in Md. )

I would see no reason why not unless store policy would prevent it .

You're paying for it, taking control at time of sale, and owning it. Someone else kicked in some cash. Can't see why that would be criminal or an infraction, not by any standard.

If questioning it, just ask the FFL shop you're buying it from (presuming it's a shop). They'll let you know if they've got discomfort with the arrangement. Can't see why they would, as it's you who'll be going through the checks and picking up the rifle. Even if it were someone else picking it up then gifting it to you, gifts also aren't deemed criminal.

I know my sister did that for her son and there were no problems.

You're fine. As long as you're legal to own it you're fine. You only have problems when they buy it for you and you're underage. That's when you can get the feds. in on it.
Gun control isn't about guns...it's about control. It also makes criminals out of otherwise law abiding citzens.

This one is a little confusing, what if part of the answer is yes and the other part no?
Does that make it a maybe so or maybe no?

I only ask because I've been at the same looney bin for 27 years and I'm surrounded by a bunch of nut cases but I've never been found to be defective (at least not in Moms eyes).

As long as you are the one filling out of the forms or she is doing it as a legal gift to you ...

If your filling out the forms and just letting her have some fun with it .. I dont see a issues .. Just dont make it sound like a straw buy if you tell the gun store this .... Esp in a Border state ....

And oh yeah sounds like a keeper

Chris, has your FFL shop indicated there's any problem?
