    What would you have?

If money was no object and you could buy the one gun you wanted in life, what would that gun be?

For me, it would be nicest full frame stainless Colt 1911 that Colt could build as a custom to my specs. I already called them to see about what it would cost. Their estimate was about $5k, give or take a couple grand. Then it has to go to a supplier that adds some to the price and down to a local FFL that adds just a few dollars more for handling the sale.

I might could afford it if it were not for a lady that says I am not spending that much money on just one gun.
    A 9mm might expand but a .45acp never shrinks.

One gun? Cost is no object? Lady monitoring the budget? Brother, this ain't ever gonna' happen. Yet...unless you're a dedicated Colt fan (and who isn't) I might look at the custom offerings from Dawson Precision.

I would go with a full auto something, not sure but it would be fun and very expensive to shoot. Probably belt feed

What my retirement gun will be. A tuned, custom engraved and embellished S&W revolver, with genuine ivory stocks, and gold bead front sight.
And yes, I will carry it until my days end!

I guess I would have to go with a S&W Model 27 a 3.5" barrel, with original style bluing, gold inlay, with oversized ivory grips, in an El Paso Saddlery custom holster, belt, and speed loader case.

Girls don't ALWAYS want shiny things, this would work for me but would need some shiny ammo to go with it Oh AND a tripod.

For me, it was when I saw an article on the AMT Auto Mag in one of the big gun annuals circa 1982 or so. It was instant lust. I didn't actually sleep with a picture of an Auto Mag under my pillow, but I might have throught about it.

The price of one always exceeded what I could justify spending, but thirty years later I managed to collect enough parts to piece one together from used and new-old-stock bits. In the end, it cost more than just buying a complete gun... except I could never justify $2500-$3500 in one chunk. So I put it together like Johnny Cash's old Cadillac... one piece at a time.

I have all 63 pieces in their separate plastic bags. Retail for a brand-new Glock 17 is $599. You could buy two of those for what a used Auto Mag frame goes for... every single part of an Auto Mag is a shiny stainless C&R antique, and priced accordingly... of course, the parts don't actually assemble into a complete gun yet; practically everything has to be "fit", and I'm taking my time.

It's single action, single stack, and holds 7 rounds. It shoots .44 AMP. It is My Precious...
