The most current HP is the Mark III, the differences between the two in the photo you have Bud are just in the finish, sights, and stocks. I started seeing some sales for HP Practicals (two-tone finish) for $499...that's inexpensive. I thought about getting one, but instead, I'm sending my Mark II back to Cylinder & Slide in Nebraska for tuning.
If given a choice between the two in the photo, I'd do the bottom...since I'd change the sights (at a minimum) anyway and it'd be cheaper.

Ahhh.....(where's SAC when you need him?)
...I believe all of the current BHPs are Mark IIIs...just different options.
If you can find one, get an FN (NOT "FM"...those are Argentinian) HP....CDNN had them for $400 but are long sold out. Those are simply Mark IIIs imported directly by the maker FN.

Have you browsed Steve's sight Bud? http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/
Not sure but possibly some clues there and - Steve answered another BHP query very recently but forget the page url. Nothing against the newest ones but I'd still be looking around for a good earlier one.

Hello. All of the current Hi Powers are based on the MkIII "chasis" with the Mk III usually costing less and the Standard, more.
Most will benefit from a trigger job, but they are reliable in the extreme and will normally do no larger than 3" @ 25 yards and considerably less with ammunition that the particular pistol "likes."
As an owner of both the older guns and the Mk III versions, for a shooter, I prefer the newer guns...but that sure as heck does NOT mean that I'd turn down an older one were the price right.
It just sort of depends on what you prefer or like best.
Best.

Hello. I have not tried a CD Hi Power but do not care for the Express Sights, though many folks apparently do. The CD is manufactured by FEG but assembled in the US from what I remember.
Best.

Hello. I'm not sure. From what I hear and have read, the guns seem to work in most instances.
Best.
