    Mil-Spec arrived. And it's a GI

I took the seller's "SA Mil-Spec" at it's word and was guilty of not paying closer attention to the pics. Much to my surprise, when I opened the box at the FFL, saw the straight serrations and then verified the military type sights, small ejection port and WW serial number, I said sonofagun, it's a GI model.
Just yesterday someone called me and said he had the GI Mil-Spec he was telling me about last summer (his friend's) and asked me if I wanted it for $500. I darn near said to meet me at the shop today, but cooler senses prevailed and I told him I'd think about it. I'm glad I did, because I thought I was getting SA's newer Mil-Spec model and don't need two GI models... at least that's what I'm telling myself today

So here's my $450 GI Mil-Spec. I bought this to drop a threaded barrel into and lightly modify, but maybe now I'll do a bit more to it now. It's certainly a much better fit and finish than my Newer Mil-Spec was.
Spotless barrel, just a couple rub marks, 6-3/4lb crisp trigger, Hogue grips, made 2010. I didn't realize these were made that long.

Still, you could have paid a LOT more for a lot less. I think you did fine, on a net, net basis.

Yeah, I think I did alright.
I think I'll go shoot a mag or two through it.

Considering all your skills you've been working on I'd say that looks like a blank canvas to me.

    I like it. But I'm a sucker for 1911's.

Yep, definitely a full blown project gun.
Two mags and I couldn't get tighter than an 8" group at 15 yds. Ouch.

It's living up to it's GI namesake!

I like the GIs except for the sights! They aren't "old eye" friendly. DR

Early MillSpecs were GIs im pretty sure.......They later made them 3 dots and different slide serrations and called them Milspecs
then called GIs GIs,,,,,,,kinda backwards but yea

Dump the ugly rubber grips and get some nice GI style wood ones :)

    Springfield1911-A1 by knapptimephotography, on Flickr

This started life as a 1911 GI springer...... now it is a work in progress. All wilson combat internals, WC adjustable trigger, ATI skeleton square hammer, TActical slide release, mag release and thumb saftey from WC, fitted for a matte bead blasted grip saftey from WC... lowerd and flared ejection port, throated barrel, internal deburring from Springfield..... all from a lowly GI springer... I think you can make something wonderful
