    Price Check Please - S&W 442

Hi. I am new to ccw'ing and I want to pick up a pocket gun. I have been to all the gun shops in my area and looked and felt all the models that I am interested in and I came up with one. It is a S&W 442 Hammerless 38spl +p blued display model. They are asking $389.99 for it. Its never been fired. All the ones that I looked at were priced between $389.99 - $499.99. This one is the cheapest. I was wondering if it is a good price. I have not Haggled with them yet so I might be able to get it a little bit lower. I go to this gun shop about 3-5 times a month and I am liked and they know me buy name so I think that I might be able to talk them down a little bit. If I can't I want to know if the regular price is fair? I have also gone to Gunbroker.com
and this $389.99 sounds fair. Thank you in advance for all your replies. Jeff.

It's a good price, Bud's Gun Shop has it for $339, they are often the cheapest prices I can find but when you add in shipping and your FFL transfer that $50 saving will disappear.
Spend the money with the local store and build a relationship with them. It's good to support gun shops and they will hopefully help you out one day.

That seems like a fair price to me not having seen the gun. An Etailer (gun show and online seller only, no store) might be able to do a bit better, but as Alias mentioned by the time you get it out the door the additional costs will make it less of a deal.

Also having been behind the counter I can tell you it really galls the FFL when people transfer in guns that they sell. I'd recommend you buy it local unless they are trying to rip people off.

IMO, anything under $400 for a quality S&W snubbie is a reasonable deal. If it's the one you want, do it.

Last year, I sold a 15yr old S&W 442 Airweight for $299. Was probably underpriced by $50, but it went within a couple days. They move all day long at $325-375.

    I paid $200 for my LNIB 442.

I doubt you will find one that cheap. $389-$400 sounds about right for a NIB from a dealer.

The 442 is a great pocket gun and I love mine.

I paid $414 for my 642 about two weeks ago.

Ok then. Thank You all for your comments. I am going to buy it from my gun shop like Scott said. I think that is a good idea also. I wasn't sure about the price that is why I asked. Now I do. Thank You again and have a nice day. Jeff.

sixto. That is a Positive YES. I will give a range report also. I get a free 1 day range pass and an 1 hour class for cleaning and operating for it also included. I shot the 442 last week, but it was a rental gun. I am so excited that it is hard to wait for my check to come in. When I get it in less than a month I will post it here in the General Firearms section. Thank you again. Jeff.
