Ballistics on a .44mag lever gun (hunting antelope)
I'm thinking I'm going to get a .44mag lever action with a 16" barrel for a truck gun. I've been mulling it over in my mind whether or not I should take it antelope hunting in the fall. Problem is, I don't know how well a .44mag would do for a long shot. the primary use will be to defend against two legged critters, and maybe take down a black bear if it came to that in the woods.
My primary antelope gun choice would be my .25-06. Barring that, I'd take a 7mm or .30-06.
What's your thoughts?
I'm expecting a shot anywhere from 100 - 400 yards
p.s. This will be my first antelope hunt, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect!
