I have used nail polish on front sights for more years than I want to admit.

For the last couple of years I have switched to the testor's Acrylic model paint.
It is available in an orange flourescent that shows up for me very well.
I paint the sight blade with a coat of white first and then two coats of the orange. So far Brake cleaner,Carb cleaner and gun solvents has not hurt it but I have been able to remove it with Acetone if I need to.

not uncommon... the military will tell you to use white out (on black weapons or sights).

    downrange:
I found that with white out which is water based that liquid paper (oil based) lasts longer. At least it seems to for me. Liquid Paper is not affected by the weather.

your probably right. that's just what they tell you to use. i myself never used it, never had it when i probably could have used it. my personal weapons have the factory white on the sights still like new. maybe down the road...
