    Semis - recoil springs?

I have my own thoughts on this but - thought I'd trawl for input from folks.

What parameters do you apply regarding when you feel a new spring is needed/justified? Based I reckon on ammo thruput mainly.

Further to that - thoughts and opinion re uprating or downrating factory spec springs?

Ooo this should be a can o worms

All depends mostly i go with Manuf recommendations except on my kimber 800 rounds on a 4" gun come on when a 4 1/4 can go 1500?

I run 16.5 in my 5" 1911's except my Les Baer it runs 18.5 per Les I figure he built the pistol he should know About 2k before i replace the springs recoil and Firing pin
    5K on the main

Commander is 18.5 except the Les Baer 20.5 i think it is

1500 on the recoil and firing pin with 5K on the mainspring again and i suppose sear should be done same time

That said my ruger Mark II has well over 10K though it and i have never changed the spring Never have shot enough in everything else to replace them

i dont go up or down unless it something like a Softball load then of course go down till it will run

now if you run a ton of +P i think you should up the spring otherwise leave it alone

    recoil springs

I found that my P99 loves the Sprinco spring set up I bought for it. Like 70 bucks but lightyears ahead of the stock set up. Even Mr. Glock at the range tonight was impressed.I changed the set up on my 2 Kahrs'. I used the Wolf replacement guide rod and spring set up. Also nice. But the Sprinco guiderod/spring duo are great. Good shooting mate!

Hey - Did somebody mention recoil springs?

Gun springs and magazine springs are getting better all the time.

The Chrome Silicon alloy recoil springs have really extended spring life a lot and the variable weight versions are super nice.

Slightly Off Topic...I'm sold on the plus power magazine springs for any properly tuned semi-auto.

I'm almost positive that SIG and Colt both use Wolff recoil springs in their factory new pistols.

Are we talking soley recoil springs or all springs? I won't change specs on recoil springs in a carry gun unless there is a specific need. I.E., Springfield puts incorrect springs on their guns a lot, I put the right ones in.
For other guns that I shoot a lot, I can feel when the spring starts to degrade, thats when I'll change them out. On daily carry guns, I'll change them every 5k or so depending on the gun.

Thinking recoil springs here - so leaving aside the others, altho of course mag springs are themselves another issue where upgrades can be useful.

Thx for the comments - I certainly do not seek or expect any ''definitive'' info as there are so many variables to consider. It is tho of interest to hear how other folks approach this.

5K on changing out the recoil springs seems about right to me from experiences over the years.
