Was out shooting my Glock 34 Gen 4 today, I had a failure with the third magazine on round 15 of 17. I was rapid firing so I could not tell you if the gun was completely in battery. After the failure the gun was about 2/3 back from full battery, the force ejected the magazine. I racked back the slide and the case ejected. The case was ruptured, funky smell, very thick carbon deposit. I only had powder burns on my right hand.
Took it to a gun smith, quickly checked it over and said it was likely the ammo or the gun not in full battery. He did not recommend any other functional checks. I am poking around to see if anybody heard of issues with the failure I saw.
He commented that he has never seen this with a 9mm, he stated older Glock 10mm's it would happen every once in a while.
Details
Glock 34 Gen 4 with only about 2,000 round through it.
Mods: Ghost connector, Ghost 6 lb firing pin spring, Titanium plunger
Magazine: Factory Glock
Ammo: Winchester White box FMJ
My 9mm AR pistol doesn't like cheap brass or reloads. The chamber is just loose enough that it will allow the case and head to separate. That's kind of what that looks like to me. I would think a Glock chamber would be more forgiving, but maybe yours is just a smidge out of spec. Either way, I consider that an ammo issue more than a gun issue. Try a couple different brands next time out.
Old Vet: Thank you for the comment on the battery not being fully seating the striker not firing. That would me leaning to bad ammo, which makes me feel better.
Does that 34 have a supported chamber? Almost looks like brass from when a .40 kabooms in a way. WITH IT UNLOADED make sure striker won't fire out of battery.
