I thought I'd share a little IM conversation my wife and I had this afternoon while I was at work: (its a little long)

    I was looking around online.
    me [1:35 PM]:
    ok
    wife [1:35 PM]:
And I don't think they make pink sparkly revolvers.
    me [1:35 PM]:
    hahahahaha
    wife [1:35 PM]:
I mean, I'm not sure what they would be under.
    wife [1:35 PM]:
    I looked under girly guns...
    wife [1:35 PM]:
What you think would come up does NOT come up. Good thing K wasn't down here.
    wife [1:36 PM]:
    I looked up pink handgun.
    wife [1:36 PM]:
    Nothing.
    wife [1:36 PM]:
    Pink sparkly revolvers...
    me [1:36 PM]:
    I love you
    wife [1:36 PM]:
    Nothing.
    wife [1:36 PM]:
And seriously, the gun manufacturers are totally missing an ENTIRE market here.
    me [1:37 PM]:
    I love you
    wife [1:39 PM]:
Why? You don't think grils would like pink guns?
    wife [1:39 PM]:
    Especially sparkly ones?
    me [1:39 PM]:
I think most girls are more concerned with it being reliable, over pretty
    wife [1:39 PM]:
    Oh please!?
    wife [1:39 PM]:
Have you ever met a girl?
    me [1:40 PM]:
    one or two
    wife [1:40 PM]:
Uh-huh... And how many of them would drive a car that got terrible reviews or whatever, because it's pretty.
    me [1:40 PM]:
    ?
    wife [1:40 PM]:
How many of them would pick a cell phone based on looks before based on how well they work?
    me [1:41 PM]:
    well
    wife [1:41 PM]:
    Yeah, see?
    wife [1:41 PM]:
A girl *would* buy a pink handgun.
    wife [1:41 PM]:
Besides, who the heck said it wouldn't be reliable?
    me [1:44 PM]:
I guess that depends on who makes it
    me [1:44 PM]:
you can get a Green Glock
    wife [1:44 PM]:
Fine, it's a pink sparkly Glock.
    wife [1:44 PM]:
    Girls *would* buy them.
    me [1:46 PM]:
yes, I'd imagine they would..but.. what happens when the guy needs to use her gun?
    me [1:46 PM]:
    his is in the shop
    wife [1:46 PM]:
The guy should be more worried about saving himself or her, that a pink gun wouldn't matter
    me [1:47 PM]:
what if he needed to carry it to the range to practice?
    wife [1:48 PM]:
    hehehehehe
    wife [1:48 PM]:
    http://jimsgunsupply.com/DuraCoat/duracoatpictures.html
    wife [1:48 PM]:
Go down to the fourth row.
I was left quite speechless after seeing the pictures.. a pink glock???

Assuming she starts to like shooting (we're going to pick up a .22 and take her to the range this weekend, thanks again for all the suggestions on good .22s)... she'll probably eventually want her own gun... and now that she's seen that site, she'll want it pink and sparkly

Assuming the coating was only applied to external parts, does it look like the 'duracoat' being sold by Jim's gun supply would be safe (I know its not practical..but..some arguments just can't be won)?

and yes, if she ever joins CC.com, I'll be in a world of hurt for posting this..but.. I got a good laugh

Tell your wife I'm with her!

I have been looking everywhere for some beautiful flowery grips maybe with a humming bird on them or something.

I am ALL for being a GIRLIE and a gun nut.

I'm not so sure I'd go with a pink gun, (I love my stainless and black) but some girlie grips and accessories would be a catch for me.

Manufacturers need to step it up.

jackofspades - that is the funniest thing I have read in a long long time!! Lucky for me, my wife settled on the M&P in 9mm. Man, I would hate for her to ever have it coated in pinkness...I would never be able to shoot it again!! LOL

Hey, after working a gun counter for a year I'm not a bit surprised to see such a conversation. We started stocking Taurus .22's, the little ones with the tip up barrels, a few months after I started working there. They came with pink plastic grips. We couldn't keep them on the shelves. Never mind that they jammed all the time, that .22 is a nearly worthless SD caliber, and that the grips had a tendency to shatter if you actually fired the gun. They were pretty, and they sold. Another case in point; my brother's girlfriend is now in the market for a CC pistol. Initially she wanted a case colored SAA clone, because it's pretty. Now, a SAA clone is a hell of a lot better for SD than a .22 that jams all the time, but it's not a good gun for her. She settled on a Kahr K40. If anyone knows of a source for pink grips for it let me know, I'll have one down on my Christmas list. Your wife is right, gun manufacturers are missing a market segment by not making pretty guns to appeal to girls. They buy them whether the guns are any good or not.

    I'm with her, too.

Tell her to check out Taurus' revolver line. No pink sparklies, but plenty of pretty stuff.

(Heh. And a friend of mine has butterflies engraved on her Glock's slide. Pretty! Would be prettier in pink ...)

Please don't anybody mention that site with the OSU orange furniture and AR mags to Kevin. We have enough trouble with him wanting orange holsters.

My alma mater's colors are blue and orange, but I don't have to have everything in Auburn colors.

    Just kidding, Kevin.

Lady in a gun store tried to sell my wife on one of those pink .22s. She was offended by the idea. Now she wants a 1911 (w/ blue wood grips); she's a keeper.

a friend's wife told him it was okay to buy a pistol (for himself) so long as it was pretty- he got a berreta 92 and she approved. go figure.
and, as mentioned, i have seen several wild-looking taurus revolvers (titanium, mother of pearl, etc.) and small 25 autos.

Lol!! I always thought those were pretty guns too.

As far as the pink Glock goes, I am happy with my black Glock, but I'd probably go for the magazine with the pink accents, and maybe some in a nice green and baby blue!! To me, the pink parts of the Glock make it look like a cheaply done manicure. I think they can do better than this. Maybe it will be something to look forward to in the future. Something a little more elegant.

Does it matter what the gun looks like? Concealed means concealed!

Oh...and if you are forced to draw, you wouldn't need to fire, because the BG will die laughing.

But seriously, I think your wife is right--there is a market, but how much of a market is there?

Anti- slant: "now they're making guns that look like toy guns with different colors...oh the horrors! How will our law enforcement know the difference!? I feel the vapors coming!"
