Mental shopping list for guns?
I have a permanent mental shopping list for the guns I'm thinking of getting next, it gets revised according to my perceived needs, cashflow, and any looming bans.
Because I'm a bit edgy about bans right now the list got shuffled so the FN FiveseveN and a semi-auto shotgun are at the top presently. I might be wrong that they are on the endangered list though.
Here's my list, it'll probably change before my next purchase.
FN SLP shotgun.
FN FiveseveN.
XD45 Compact.
Kel Tec P3AT.
Colt Gold Cup.
S&W M&P9.
If past experience is anything to go by I will likely by the third gun first and the first gun last, I don't know why I bother with the mental list but it keeps me sane when I'm doing boring jobs like painting trim, which I've been doing for two weeks now...
Anyone else make lists?

I used to - that's for sure.
Right now my list is not so much the mental list like yours, as over time I have about completed getting what I set out to buy.
My list is a ''dream list'' - items that in all likelehood will never come to fruition because outside of my reach financially.
That would include a good 50 BMG, Registered Magnums, .50 D'Eagle, and probably too a high end loaded 1911 (in the $2,500 category). Wouldn't rule some Class III either - like a nice MaDeuce!!
I shall dream on

I also have a mental list
I usually have a mental list of 4 or 5 things I would like to buy. It helps me stay focused as I peruse the offerings at a gun shop or web site. I also have a rough price in mind for each item, so that I don't waste time on those that I consider overpriced, and can jump quickly on one that seems a bargain. And you are right that it provides an interesting mental activity when performing some boring, repetitive task.
My current list includes:
1. Sigs with stainless slides, especially a P239.
2. H&K P2000SK
3. Old S&W revolvers in excellent condition
4. Colt Officer's model

Here are the ones I'm consistently on the lookout for. Decisions typically come down to available weapons vs. available funds. I've seen good examples of all of these on the list, but just couldn't quite make the decision to purchase at the time. Usually because I've had another priority that was just a bit higher. When the big gun show is back here in May, I hope to come home with one of these.
Colt Detective Special
Browning Hi Power
Winchester Model 1897 "trench gun"
WWI or WWII 1911
M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
AK47
At a another level altogether, I'd love to have a Barret .50BMG, but that's a really tough decision, because I like to shoot a lot, and ammunition cost would just be enormous.
Cheers,
Rod

Rod, there's little chance of you "overshooting" the Barret - at least one similar to the M109. It only takes a few rounds to cause a "concussion induced" headache in many people. A few of my guys - competent, experienced, school-trained and operationally tested snipers - experienced mini-blackouts when firing a lot (more than 20 or so) of rounds though the Barret in a short time frame. Not to say it isn't a BLAST (literally and figuratively) to shoot, and the recoil is surprisingly mild, but the "slap" of pressure from the muzzle break is something to consider...
As for my list - I'm afraid it's Mall Ninja'd out right now:
Benelli M1 or M3 Super 90
Self-loading .308 with relatively short dimensions; SOCOM 16 and AR-10 are about neck and neck right now
Sig P239SAS, as soon as they make one in 9mm
Glock 26
Kahr PM9
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

I think everyone on this board probably does this, but here are the top 5 that are usually on my list and have been for some time.
Kimber Custom 2 or TLE .45
Springfield M1A .308
Remington 700 in .30-06
Nickel Plated Uberti Cattleman in .45
12 gauge pump with wood furniture and a set of barrels (rifled and a longer game/hunting one)
Kinda of easy and simple, although I think realistic. Would I like a first generation Peacemaker, hell yeah, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. I already have a one, but I really want the nickel plated one with the buffalo horn grips.

well, sure I do. How else are you supposed to keep from impulse buying all the time?
I've managed to take care of most of my list. The only thing still on it (as a maybe) is an AK, as nothing more than a fun plinker.
