    Kimber KPD .40 Anyone?

Just for the sake of discussion, has anyone actually fired one of these?

I'd be interested to hear all about it ,as I believe this is Kimber's first poly pistol.

I'd like to know if they got it right the first time, as was NOT the case with S&W and others. I figure

since they are one of the LAST guys to come out with a polymer frame they have had a lot of time for R & D.

The price is certainly right and the piece is aesthetically pleasing, simple, understated.

Kimber has a lot to say about it in their catalog, including that a 9mm variety is to be released "soon".

The advertisement really gets around, I think I've seen it in every gun mag since January.

Yet I have yet to read a single review.

It's not Kimbers first poly as they already have the Ten II 1911's that were before this one.

The problem with the Kimber is they have to compete with the Smith and Wesson M&P and that is hard to do even for Kimber at this time. Wilson Combat even has one out and the M&P is still the choice out there. S&W M&P can be found in any gun shop, I have yet to see a KDP or a Wilson at one yet.

I think the KDP is a nice choice but I am not sure I would choose it over the M&P's.

How much does the KPD differ from a M&P anyway? There was rumor early on that they were one and the same.

If they are one in the same, Kimber cheated and stole the design from S&W!

when I first saw that pistol, I know it reminded me of another pistol, but I couldnt place what it was.

Then it hit me, it sort of favors of one the most recent Steyrs.

Looks more like the Sigma series than the M&P.

I've been looking around Arkansas. Not really to buy one just to see and hold it. Everybody has told me they can't get them in. Most gun stores have them ordered they just don't have any kind of timeframe for delivery.

I have not seen one in person nor held one obviously but I like the look of the gun. I think.

It's one of those gun that if I look at a picture of it too long I start to get the feeling that it is a cheap POS. I don't know why. It is a Kimber, or at least it has Kimbers name on it. But, it just has a cheap POS look to it to me.

I will reserve judgment until I actually hold one.

If I remember right from seeing one up close and personal during SHOT Show 2006, there's a removeable piece on the gun that is sort of a tool used to help in assembling and/or disassembling the gun. If that is till the case, I don't know if I like that.

Doesn't the M&P share that function? I think that was part of the comparison. It's a tool in the mag well, where the gap is on Glocks.

I looks to me like the KPD is a ripp-off of Steyr's M-series. Even so, I might still be intersted in one.

I think it looks more like the Steyrs than anything else, absolutely.

It looks good, and has Kimber's name attached.

I still prefer GLOCK, though. I love the fact that there is nothing pinned and fixed in place on the GLOCK; that I can take apart everything. If this Kimber was like that, or the Steyrs were like that, or the XD were like that, then I would like them. Because they're not, I don't.
