    Yeah, the DEA Agent/gun expert.

This has been posted several times but it's always good for a laugh!

I swear that is why cops get a bad rap sometimes, a few morons and it's all over. I love the"I'm the only one professional enough" crap before he breaks a few gun rules one after the other.
    1. Check, recheck, then check again if it's loaded.
    2. Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction( he waves that sucker all over the place).
    3. Never put your finger inside the trigger guard unless you are going to destroy what you're aiming.
    4. Not to mention the "golden rule" in my book they're always loaded even if just checked personally.
"Fear is nothing more than an emotional response to the perception of danger coupled with the belief that I can't handle it."
"If you change that belief to 'I can handle it', you'll no longer experience FEAR. You'll simply see what you are facing is a challenge... an opportunity to test yourself.

    The rest of the story

The ND DEA guy (aka Lee Paige) apparently believes he was the wronged one. As the link below explains, he responded to the blunder by filing suit against the United States for leaking the videotape that led to his public ridicule.

    www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0411061foot1.html

The fact that he's suing the U.S. without a lawyer should say a lot about how good his lawsuit is. Gotta love his point that he may have been the best undercover DEA agent at the time. Putting aside the buffoonery, what was the guy doing making presentations in public if he was deep undercover? Makes you wonder . . .

Yeah I was wondering this myself... deffinatly would have been funny if someone from the audiance came up at the end and said "I carry a Glock .40 and have not shot myself."

Scary and sad. Those that say a negligent discharge can NEVER happen to them... I say Beware!

I know I follow the 4 "cardnal rules" each time I pick up a weapon and triple check the chamber everytime, but I am not deluded to the fact that it could Never happen. As a matter of fact, the word "never" is really not part of my vocabulary.

All it takes is a moment of inattention or distraction.

I'm taking a giant leap here as an educator myself, and think that maybe in this video, the unholstering of his "Glock .40" and using the weapon to make a point in his lecture was not part of his pre-planned presentation and kind of done on the spur of the moment. At least that's kind of what I got from his body language and how he was making his presentation in general.

I would venture to say, he is not even accustomed to doing a lot of "public speaking". That in and of itself gives most people the "willies" and a certain amount of nervousness.

While that should not make a difference in disobeying the cardinal rules of safe gun handling, I do feel it may have played a factor in it.

So, if anyone out there plans any public speaking gigs regarding firearms always remember the Six "P" Principle (Proper Planning Prevents Pi$$ Poor Performance). sorry Bumper... but that is a well recognized principle in use to prevent accidents

As an example: When giving a presentation on firearm safety, Do Not use your "duty weapon or carry gun" in any way shape or form during your presentation. (That just "Screams" Disaster!)

Always use a dedicated non-functioning training weapon.

If you have to use a functional weapon to demonstrate slide function or how a magazine interfaces with the gun (or you do not have a dedicated "training" gun), bring a seperate gun without ammo in a case that will be specifically used for the class.

And of course, you still follow the "cardinal rules" of gun safety and the proceedure for unloading and showing a safe weapon.

    Stay Safe and Safe Shooting!
