    S&W 99 .40 compact/ trigger question

With about 4000 rounds through this gun, I've noticed that the trigger has a "gritty" uneven feel when it is being squeezed.

The cleaning instructions that came with the gun don't mention anything about "deep" cleaning, and only show 4 lubrication points, none having anything at all to do with the trigger. About all S&W shows in their manual is how to clean the slide; and they warn against attempting any further work. For sure it needs some thorough internal cleaning, but I don't know how to get inside to do it.

Any "smiths" out there willing to guide me into the thing so I can clean it more thoroughly and luricate some of those internal parts-- if that is what it needs?

If no one speaks up, I'll have to send it back to S&W or to one of their authorized smiths. That's O.K., I suppose, if absolutely necessary.

I'm just hoping there is something easy I can do myself.

I have the 9mm compact but have to admit that so far I have had no trigger issues such as you describe. Helped no doubt by a thruput of maybe not too much over 1,000 rounds yet.

Some folks here have that or the Walther equivalent so - hope there will be some feedback for you.
