    Storm Lake Barrel arrived today

The craftsmanship is superb. The fit is exquisite. I can't wait to shoot with this barrel. As soon as I do, I'll post a range report.

Did you order it as a caliber conversion barrel, or an upgrade to your existing?

I'm curious if there's any difference when merely upgrading an existing gun/caliber.

I've been bored with my G23 lately, and looking for ways to upgrade it some more.

I am thinking - was this so you had regular rifling - for lead bullet use?

Those barrels seem to have a good rep - as do IIRC KKM's.

This is the match grade standard rifling in .40 (not the conversion).

I'm thinking seriously about picking up the 9mm conversion barrel, if this upgrade pans out.

The G23 looks hot with the stainless barrel, but looks are not why I bought it. Our club's indoor range is lead only, so I bought the barrel to shoot indoors during the cold Maine winters.

This seems a bit backwards to me. I would think that the club would try to get lead out of indoor use as much as possible. Have they had the place tested to see how much lead is contaminating the place lately?

I thought about getting a Storm Lake barrel but came down on the side of KKM as when i did it Storm Lake was just too new of a maker at that time. and I agree that my 35 looks really cool with the stainless barrel. Just to add a bit more I replaced the pins, slide release and slide lock with chrome parts as well. It does help the looks a bit.

The reason our club's indoor range is lead only is that it's old, and unless we substantially upgrade the backstop, we risk sending jacketed ammo beyond the confines of the range. We can shoot the very largest of handguns in there, so long as we don't use jacketed ammo. It's well ventilated (a negative pressure deal), and there are rubber containment mats between the target surface and the actual backstop, to trap any lead.

Storm Lake makes a very fine, precision barrel and quite fairly priced also.
