    John Wayne 100th Anniversary Rifle

I'm not sure this is the appropriate place for this, but here goes: My wife and I were looking for investments and saw several ads for the John Wayne 100th Anniversary Rifle in Standard ($2k) and High ($3.5k) grades. Trusting your opinions (and never investing in collectibles), Is this a good 20+ year investment? All feedback is appreciated.

Simply .... DONT . As a rule limited edition firearms do not perform well , in some cases being worth less than the common model they are built off of . put your $$ into an early colt or browning and it will appreciate or consider select 1900 to 1938 or a bit later european rifles and shotguns .. other than that you have to stay on top of the gun market to buy with intent of making money .. and i say this as a gun trader .
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

IMO RR speaks wisely - altho those guns do look rather nice.

Chances of making a buck or three are far from guaranteed - and older genuine models (non special-edition) will be a much better bet.

a 20 year investment on a firearm will NOT produce what you could make elsewhere. For example:

Invest $3500 one time in a mutual fund which averages 10% a year, and after 20 years you'll have $23,546.25.

Reckon a rifle would do that well?

    Bingo! ^^

    Guns as an investment FTcompoundedinterestL.

P.S. - It is a very nice looking rifle though.
Just buy one to have & admire without thinking of it as an investment, which it isn't.

The return on investment in a firearm should be measured in spent brass, rather than dollars.

In other words, if you buy it, buy it to shoot.

I agree with the others, these commemorative, anniversary and tribute firearms are a poor investment, because there are so many of them being offered. Every month, the gun magazines advertise a different one, in memory of some celebrity, event, or such. You would most likely never even get back your initial investment.

In 1973, I purchased a new Smith & Wesson Model 19 Texas Ranger Commemorative, with matching Bowie knife and wood case. I think I paid less than $300.00 for it, & I sold it a few years later. The same set has a current collector's value of about $650.00. That's not much after 30 some years.

Mutual funds are the way to go.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.
