hypothetical question regarding guns and criminal record
before i post this question, let me state that i've never been arrested or convicted of a crime in my life (except speeding
) This is strictly a curiousity question.
If a person is convicted of a felony, serves their time, does probation, etc....... how long is it before they are allowed to own a gun again? Never ?

Felony conviction = Never owning a firearm again.

In Texas - a felony conviction means never! For Class A or Class B misdemeanor you gotta wait 5 years to apply.

You can, however, petition the court to have your civil right restored with a single felony on your record.

Congress has blocked funding for the hearings required to get federal firearms rights restored to felons who undergo the correct process for well over a decade now. There's really no recourse.
In some states, misdemeanor convictions of a non-domestic nature will sometimes also strip you of firearms ownership. It's one of the reasons I can't visit one or two states in the union.
