    NICS Exception

How many states do this? I didn't even think to check and see if Kentucky did, but wasn't surprised to find that they do. I was going to celebrate the shiny new CCDW by getting my Cougar out of layaway today. Now I think I'll wait until after I visit the sheriff's office on Monday.

I know it will only save 10 minutes, but why not enjoy the advantages?

Are we talking about the Naval Criminal Investigation Service? IIRC most states with naval bases allow NCIS personnel to carry off post as long as it's warranted, IE if your a clerk for NCIS your out of luck.

Your OIC should be able to point you in the right direction.

I like the states that allow a CCW to save some time re NICS check - not here tho.

That said I doubt over many dealings, I have ever had more than a very few minutes delay.

Teknoid, you asked how many states do this?

    Montana does.

My understanding for Kentucky is the FFL has the option of accepting your CCL in lieu of NICS check. My local dealer has said no thanks, they'll run the NICS check.

I was curious, because it makes too much sense. That being the case, I figured the number of states that forgo the instacheck for ccw holders would be small.

In OK your CC permit does not qualify as a NICS check.

In NC the CCW permit or pistol buying permit is enough, if your buying a long gun it may not be smart to use a pistol buying permit that you had to buy from the Sheriff.

In Virginia, the instant check (NICS) is performed for all firearms from a FFL dealer. The CHP permit allows holders to purchase MORE than ONE gun a month!

(side note: The 'instant' part has improved recently. I purchased another Glock today & every other time I've had the instant check done....mine gets delayed. Usually the delay has been up to an hour, today it was only 15 minutes. For me that's a BIG improvement.)

In Arizona the CCW permit allows you to forgo the NICS check. Just one more benefit of being in the "club".

I have had it go both ways in KY. A smaller dealer skipped the NICS, but a larger one didn't.

Michigan uses your CPL instead of the NICS.

Actually I think MI uses you CCW permit instead of a pistol purchase permit, but still does the NICS check.
