    Smith & Wesson 52-2 Wadcutter

Here is one you don't see everyday And many might not know exist or ever did.

    A 52-2 38 Master

Its a Wadcutter gun this one has the bomar sight rib and is in excellent shape. I was in the shop just about 10 mins after the guy traded it in and said i would take it just had to wait for it to clear which was this am ..

These made in what would become the custom shop from what i understand and have read

Its a 5 shot only well 6 if you put one in the pipe and then the mag ..
Single action only with a uber slick trigger falling about about 2# or less
I ordered a spring kit for it today to replace the springs .. now i have to find what load it prefers and runs on the best.

The pics don't do it justice it has the deep bluing of the old days

Here is the screw in barrel bushing and plate

And now the barrel As you can see it is unlinked and doesn't connect to the slide stop pin at all this is designed to be a straight blow back just like a 22 hence the 38 mid range marking on the barrel ..Sorry could not get the markings on the barrel to come out

Better pics of the slide and the Bomar Rib

The pin poking out the front of the slide is a retaining pin for the bushing and bushing plate

Very nice! I saw one in perfect condition without the bomar... I so wanted it but it was marked at $2000. Definitely a memorable trigger.

A born on date is looking about 1969 waiting for smith to confirm it the book i have says the A serial # started in 1970 at A11 this starts A107 so in the last 68 to 69 production range..

Now to continue looking for a realistcally priced 191138 wadcutter gun

Great pistol! Thanks for showing the neat photos. I'm envious. I've long wanted to sneak up on a good deal on a Model 52.

    Bud, you lucky dog!

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson says the Model 52-2 began production in 1971.

    Congrats!

One of my friends has had one for years. Outside of being very "finicky" about what ammo it likes, it's a great target pistol.

Well, all I can tell ya is what I read from the two "bibles" of S&W.

The SCSW by Supica & Nahas gives 1971 as the date for the M52-2.

History of Smith & Wesson, by Roy G. Jinks (the official S&W historian) says also that the M52-2 came out in 1971.

Well, the only way to know for sure is to get a factory letter from Jinks for $30.00.
