    Question Sight post Rust

This gun has been on my side when I hike and rock climb. So its waded through rivers, streams, large snow drifts, very damp caves, falling into deep mud holes and even the salty Chesapeake Bay.
Im damn satisfied in how well its held up through all the abuse and wet conditions.

On my Sig, I have a little bit of rust spot on the front and rear sight post.

Its NOT on the slide or any other part of the gun.

But can these little specs of rust spots transfer to a Stainless Steel slide?
I was thinking about getting Night Sites put on soon anyhow.
But what about the meant time?

Put a couple drops of gun oil on a pad of the finest steel wool (not a Brillo pad) you can find (0000, I think), lightly rub the rust spots, and they will magically disappear.

Brownells sells gunsmith grade steel wool.

But can these little specs of rust spots transfer to a Stainless Steel slide?
    Don't get your drift here.

Are you asking if these little rust spots can somehow just leap off of the sights and land on the slide?

If you clean them up and keep them covered with a light coat of oil; no. If the sight metal is directly touching the slide and you neglect the issue, maybe.
