I prefer dark colored guns, but QKShooter hit the nail on the head. Go everywhere, do everything thing, draw 'em, sweat on 'em, scratch 'em, use 'em guns need to be stainless for me. Plus, aluminum .45s seem more "bouncy" in recoil. I have two identical guns, 4566/4563TSWs, and I think the 66 is faster to recover (haven't tried to prove it with a timer).

I'd be torn between stainless and carbon. Definitely not aluminum if you're planning on running comps with it at some point. My little aluminum procarryII definitely wears a lot faster than my old steel colt.

No significant difference, as far as longevity, between modern carbon and stainless. Stainless is easier to match a finish on, and more environmentally tolerant. Also, should you change a safety/plungertube, etc., on a coated or plated gun, you'll have to go stainless , or have the whole thing recoated for a respectable match. So...stainless.

Alloy is alloy- you wouldn't plan on doing 1200 rounds through an airweight J frame, and expect it to keep clocking along without some wear taking things at least marginally out of spec. S&W's alloy framed service autos are prime examples: very popular, at the time, but really used very little. Someone here may know, but I would be surprised if they didn't have an expected factory overhaul at 2000-2500 rounds.

I would say stay away from alum for high round count gun. I went alum. too, but owning a SA , but as Bud said, lifetime warranty. I don't think you will notice the weight difference much for range /training work.
you may find carrying a bit longer 1911 isn't too difficult.
