TO SPAS or Not to SPAS

Guy at work is selling a 12 for $1300. I hear bad things about them but there totally COOL. Plus there the only gun i know of that guys would use to hunt dinosaurs "CLEVA GURL" , I'm leaning towards not to buy but if somebody gives me a really reallly good reason I might. I could go into more debt if I really had to.

I would pass, they look cool but I would spend the money on something else.

Buddy of mine had one of the early ones back in the late 80's - indeed super cool looks - and sounded good in operation but - leaving all that aside, IMO an over-priced novelty!

No other real genuine benefits - and I think I'd rather put good money toward a more regular 12 ... and spend extra maybe on furniture etc. I'll take (and keep!) my 870 Magnum any day over one of those - and it's a lot less money!

You could buy a Mossberg 930 and a lot of ammo

    Yeah... and it's heavy too!

    That's just too much loot.

Nothing beats a basic Remington 870 pump which you can get for $300 or so!

How fast is he selling it?

Might sound dishonest but: list the gun on a few gun forums and see if anyone offers more. I've seen them going for 2k in good shape if toys are included. (case, light, etc)

No SPAS, get a Benelli, an 870, or an 1100 now that they are coming in black again

    impractical

The only reason to buy one would be for an investment. I'm sure it's top on the ban list and you'll double your money. All it has going for it are "Gee Whiz" points, not practical if you want it for HD or some such purpose.

If you plan on getting it for the home defense aspect I would NOT recommend it, UNLESS you plan on practicing with it REGULARLY. The reason I say this is mainly because people tend to get hung up switching back and forth between semi and pump. And I have SEEN folks who thought they were good to go at the range only to discover they screwed up switching earlier and it no go boom.

IF on the other hand you want it for the "Gee-Whiz" factor...by all means go for it. They are a blast! Although they are also a PITA to take down for cleaning etc...(I had a friend that used to have one).

Also if I remember right they had a tendency to wear out the recoil buffers and they don't make them anymore. I think there's one or two folks in the US that have started manufacturing their own. So if you buy it, make sure you find some and stock up. You can run it without them, but it WILL destroy the frame eventually if you run without them.
