Send the picture (better one if you can get it) along with serial number etc to Smith and Wesson. They can look it up for you. Don't know if there is a charge for this service but it would be worth it.

A factory letter from S&W Historian Roy Jinks will tell you the exact year of manufacture, date of shipment from the factory and who it was shipped to. Cost is $30.00.
I highly recommend that you invest in the letter.

Beautiful pic, pistola!
You really should get a factory letter on your Smith. It will add a lot to the collector's value.
Here's the link, if you're interested.

Here's your M&P's shorter brother. Serial number is about 100,000 lower than your revolver's serial number.

Well, looky there! Pistola's done gone and got hisself a factory letter. Didn't take too long either. Thanks for sharing it and photos of your neato M&P. Love to see factory letters. Wonder how it traveled from Columbus, Ohio to Opossum Hollow? See how it was shipped out seven years after Pearl Harbor. Korea was coming up in less than two years. Folks lived in an unsettled world in 1948 too. A Smith & Wesson revolver is always appropriate.
