Forest Service Positions Itself to Ban Shooting

This from the Rocky Mountain Gun Owner's website:

    http://rmgo.org/alerts/2007-ForestServiceMeeting.shtml

Don't know how far reaching this is, but apparently a Boulder, Colorado Forest Ranger has banned shooting on Federal public land and now the United States Forest Service is weighing in on it. The link takes you to the story and a petition to sign.

Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides...” (Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria)

It is an interesting problem and I hope it ends favorably for shooters.
We in NC have a similar issue, the National Forrest is in the state game lands program. So outside of the deer season rifles & handguns with larger than .22 lr ammo are outlawed. There are also restrictions on shotguns and shot size.
I do not think it is enforced much, but, has been and a ticket can and has been issued for possession of the ammo without a gun in possession.

Further insanity to criminalize normal behavior by upstanding citizens.

It hasn't affected VA yet, but I signed it anyway. Tis better to kick it in the arse on it's own turf before it gets going rather then to try to fight it while it's attacking you on your doorstep.

So instead of national forests being a model for national parks, we are beginning to tilt backwards.

We have enjoyed lots of good 2A laws the last few years. I fear the pendulum swings back.

In all honesty, we (gunnies) did it to ourselves AGAIN. The unsupervised public shooting ranges and other unsupervised places which are just popular to shoot really ARE dumps. Brass, shotshells, targets... even old appliances.

The vast majority of shooters using these venues don't clean up after themselves... many don't even follow basic range etiquette and safety. I won't shoot at any of the ones I know... it isn't safe and they are trash heaps.

    We did it to ourselves.

come visit my favorite. (i pick up shotshells and rifle ammo but am guilty of leaving the pistol stuff most of the time)

we do pick up trash and old tv's that are left there when we leave though.

i guess the motto is leave it cleaner than you found it.

As with all statements I've made and All that I will make, please check your local laws to verify accuracy. (and if i'm wrong let me know as I like to be right in the future) After all I'm just some goofball posting on an internet forum.

I could not agree more...It is damn embarrassing really!!

I like to think it is never too late though. I have been to the Boulder Ranger station and given a donation and put myself on a list to help with clean up. I also carry a garbage bag with me when I shoot and try to carry a bag out when I shoot.

I take my own paper targets and cardboard and I pack it all out with me.
