Best outrageous claims of bullet/gun capabilities?
Yesterday I stopped by a local sporting goods store, looking for .45 ACP defense ammo. The clerk suggested round nose and FMJ 230 grn , because"it will stop a truck" and "it will punch thru and engine block" . I replied I was looking for something more to stop and attacker rather than a truck, and the HP hydrashok ammo would work better, thanks.
He then told me, "it's only 165 grn , and will work at close range , but past 25 ft. it is inaccurate" and "if I hit a shoulder it will take the arm off " . The 9mm hydrashoks are deadly too, but he didn't mention any enguine killing with em . He also told me he had experience from shooting in the Army.
So whats the most outrageous claims you guys have heard?

Every other time I hear the term "tack driver" at the range, I am not surprised to see a target that fails to back up the claims. Invariably, it's got 1/2" (or larger) groupings, with distinctly separate bullet holes. 1/2" groups? Big tacks, I guess.

I know of one expert who claims a 45 ACP hit to the hand of an attacker will spin him 360 degrees and then he'll fall over from the impact. I wanna know where I can find some of those rounds for mine!

"He went on two legs, wore clothes and was a human being, but nevertheless he was in reality a wolf of the Steppes. He had learned a good deal . . . and was a fairly clever fellow. What he had not learned, however, was this: to find contentment in himself and his own life. The cause of this apparently was that at the bottom of his heart he knew all the time (or thought he knew) that he was in reality not a man, but a wolf of the Steppes."

Went into a gun store a couple months ago and there was a customer that had just ordered a pistol. As they were finishing up and the customer was about to leave the salesperson mentioned the FN 57 pistol. He told the customer that it would penetrate three vests. Then he tells the customer that it looked like Congress was fixing to pass a law to ban the pistol. The customer changed his pistol order to a FN 57 on the spot.
In describing the vest penetration he didn't distinguish between levels 1,11A,11or 111A and the customer didn't ask. He didn't mention that there is a 'SS192" and also a "SS196" bullet.
According to FNH USA the SS196 will not penetrate the level 11 vest and the SS192 will not penetrate the level 111A vest. SS192 is no longer imported for the US for commercial purposes.

The SS195LF is the 192 with a non-lead primer or something. And the 196 is not being sold any longer either as it was replaced with the SS197. The 197 has a bit more punch than the 196 with the same bullet. Well, the 197 has a blue tip rather than a red but that is just cosmetic so you know what you have.

Just about any Hollywood movie with guns is usually outrageous...just count the shots in any semi used!
Can they really hold 42 shots in a mag made for 10...how DO they do that?

How about .410 slug "more lethal and more accurate than a 7mm Mag. at 300 yards." Dare I say more???????

Or the bullet that goes through a body, 3 walls, ends up in inside the family dog and CSI recovers it in perfect shape?

How about the outageous claims that the anti's use against the .50 BMG...
anyone can punch though a tank at 2 miles...
punches though any amour plate made...
can shoot down an airliner with a single bullet....
anybody can pick one up and snipe out to 2000 yards...
to name a few.

Had a guy tell me that he blew a telephone pole in half from .44 Mag shot.
I was so convinced, I drove out to where he said he did this???

Assault Weapons are not used for hunting because there would not be any meat left to strap on the hood of the truck.
ANYONE can buy a AK47 through the mail for under $200 (Told by a BATF agent to a newspaper in FL following the shooting of a LEO last week (according to the paper))
Pistol Grips are on Assault Weapons so that you can spray from the hip.
You can make a AR15 fully auto with a nail file and a paper clip.

Not necessarily about the caliber per se, but I heard this about a sawed off shotgun: All you have to do is point it down a hallway, and you will hit anything between the plaster.
I couldn't help but to laugh out loud as I turned from the counter and walked out.
