    Another good range session

Range day with petty officer Cody - my step son!

He's on leave and this was a promised range session. He qualified with Beretta 92 but - got on very well with SIG 228 and about everything else!! He sampled the ''grin machine'' BFR in 45-70 and also the .454 Ruger. After those the .44 mag Ruger almost seemed tame! The M28 with bobbed hammer got some full mag loads and the AK was given ''bust the AOL CD's'' duty on the 100 yard line!

Plenty of ammo expended with the SIG at closer distances - forgot darned B27's so we had to make do with regular targets but not a problem. Some retention point shooting, some two handed - plus a bit of on-the-move drill too. Also put some rounds thru the UC-9 Bersa. He did very well indeed and he hopes when he is soon based in Jacksonville he can get a good bit of extra range time.

As so often, a session finishes with the good ol' .22!! Gave my Papoose some excercize and we expended a ridiculous amount of ammo plinking at still intact CD's at the 100 yard berm, some paper plates (and a few rocks!!).

All in all - a happy five hours in beaut' weather. Beats work any time Selection of pics follows .......

Even a bad day at the range beats a good day at work...
    Looks like a great day...
Nice looking range...is that a 'walk and shoot trail?' (what's in the trees?)

Ken ....... yep - a nice small rifle range and even better when (as is fairly usual) no one else is there. The tree line to right is actually close to property boundary (tho open beyond that) but beyond the 100 yard berm is a large sweep of track that goes out the back into a few acres and they have real good sporting clays all round that once a month.

Behind the side berm in pic #8 is clubhouse etc and to right of that the main trap shooting area.

Ben - always have been a wheel gun enthusiast from earliest days - so have somewhat ''accumulated'' them!

Chris, looks like Cody was having a ball and I can hear your grin is the post and photos. It also looks like Cody had put on some muscle from some of the earlier photos that you have posted. Military tends to do that to you. Enjoy.

That he has George ... tho he is by nature a skinny beanpole and so will never have huge muscle mass - but this does tend to mean he is good on stamina and that I reckon will be a valuable resource. He works out very hard and I expect he'd out run (duration) many guys bigger than him.

When he leaves here he goes to Maine for 2 week's survival course - and then down to Jacksonville. Stamina will IMO be everything in those 2 weeks.

Nothin like a day sending some lead down range!! Is that the Bushnell Halo sight on the 45-70 BFR? Looks like your hot weather has finally broke and the skies turning bright blue, we call it "Carolina Blue". I am sure this is something Chris will remember for a long, long time. My dad didn't take us often, I learned about guns as an adult, but I will always remember the times that we did go.
God Bless and tell Chris I said "Thank you for his service"

Kevin .. I am Chris ... Cody is step son Main heat has broken yes but we do have it crankin up again for a few days - probably hit mid 80's for coupla days or more. Fall is round corner tho!

I will pass on your good wishes of course - he is early in his career but is excelling - he has found his niche.

The BFR? - yes a Holosight although unfortunately the version that takes ''N'' cells - but that is no biggie other than cost of the things and this unit was on special offer 3 years ago at (IIRC) about $165, so a good deal itself.!
