I saw some nice surplus Russian SKS Carbines up at Gander today... i've heard good things about them. What do you think about them? I was almost tempted to buy it today, but i'd rather get some more input before I buy something I won't like.
I would like to add something I forgot to add. I currently own a semi-auto SKS in 7.62 - 39mm. The one I saw was a bolt action in 7.62 - 54mm
Well, if it was a bolt action in 7.62x54R, it wasn't an SKS (unless I've missed something.) It was most likely an M44 or M38 Mosin Nagant. By all accounts, these are very serviceable rifles, if not gorgeous in looks or accuracy. I've seen some M44 carbines going for very good prices lately, and have been seriously thinking about grabbing one myself....
Pro, listen very carefully....you need one of these, plain and simple.
Yes, the M44 is a wonderfull bolt action carbine. Gander sells them in great condition for I think, about $110, is this correct?
Mosins are cheap rifle to add to collection.they are fun to shoot but
not a lot as there is no pad on the stock ;a piece of tin. They are similar to a 308 762 x 51 to 762 x54. Ammo is cheap compared
to other surplus. For a hundred bucks you can't go wrong.
I think any serious gun guy needs an sks, ak or M44/38/nagant...or all
